x 1000 I looked at their acceptance and waitlist data the other day, and I was wondering what all the hype is about. |
Overrated for whom? Isn’t each college choice a personal decision? Personally know someone who turned down a T10 Ivy this year bc they wanted that big college feeling and wanted OOS and chose Michigan. Cost would have been roughly the same I guess based on parents jobs and what I guess is their income range, so no FA. And I know another who could have gone in-state at another big state school with decent merit but again wanted OOS. |
not overrated but overpriced maybe for OOS. |
Alum here and the brand recognition is real. I have lived on both coasts and in Europe and Asia and everywhere someone will stop and high five you and say Go Blue if you have a t- shirt on or hat or something. |
. Agree. Typical DCUM. Lumping all big state schools together |
Relax, Nellie. I didn’t say OSU was as ‘good’ as Michigan but you’re being ridiculous by making broad statements like that. Fact is kids can get a great education at both places, OSU has a very strong sports culture and alum network similar to Michigan (based on football, yes) and they are pushing into that popularity and courting lots of strong OOS kids for honors programs. Its a great choice. |
Exactly. |
Disagree. |
Yes, it is. But then again, so are most top colleges for the sticker price. |
OSU honors program would have been approx 30k a year for my OOS kid. Michigan 87k. Was an obvious choice for us, but dc chose a third option entirely. |
Wouldn’t tOSU love to be able to get those higher $$$. The fact is, they can’t. Michigan can and does. That’s the power of the brand. |
Disagree. DC graduated from UM and had a great experience. The alumni network got her both a summer internship and her first job out of UM. The education was strong (DC was an econ major which is a top department there). DC was also in the honors program which was a plus. We were full pay and no regrets. |
Why confused about the popularity? Founded in the early 1800s with one of the largest alumni bases in the country. Outstanding academics and huge sports. If we could pay full price, would certainly select over most private schools. |
Exactly, there's a reason why UVA oos is seen as much more prestigious than umich oos |
