Is it only "a" strategy, as in one strategy that you child is struggling with upon the many others? If so then it's on the teacher to help them understand. If you DC is struggling with math generally then yes there can be and should be help. If the teacher is indicating nothing can be done, reach out to the Counselor, Principal. If they claim the same reach out to the ES Math team in Central Office. |
If your school or teacher was teaching spelling, it was outside of the Benchmark curriculum. Last year my DS' 2nd grade teacher DID send home a short list of spelling words each week, but talking to the other parents that was not universal, only one other 2nd grade teacher at the school was doing this. |
Yes- I have a 2nd grade kid. Whitman cluster. Nothing coming home. |
If your child is struggling with math or ELA, and your teacher is saying they won’t help, then you need to request a meeting with the principal. |
| There is a Caregiver Hub you can access on Amplify that will provide you with access to the parent letters. Our reading specialist has us send them home. |
DCUM gonna DCUM! |
Third graders read The Wind in the Willows. It might not be your cup of tea, but it's not "insanely stupid." |
Have they not been teaching Spelling AT ALL or has it just not looked like sending home spelling list? Because if they’ve been doing absolutely no word study (ie. word families, vocabulary, prefixes, suffixes, etc) then yeah that’s a problem. |
Thank goodness. Like how do folks expect families to engage if they don’t know what is going on. At the very least do a weekly newsletter annout what is being covered in school and list the link or unit that families can look at in the Caregiver hub for additional support/practice. |
There has always been spellings, even in C2.0 |
I have a 5th grader. The only year she got spelling quizzes was 4th, so far. I have taken over and am doing my own spelling curriculum with her. She can't even spell many basic words. |
| I just went on the Clever-Amplify hub. Is there a place where the section texts are listed? I'd like to check out the books and texts my 1st grader is reading. |
I don't know about Clever, but the entire curriculum is available for free online. This is the current first grade unit: https://www.coreknowledge.org/free-resource/ckla-domain-02-human-body/ |
You are awesome, thank you! |
| Is cursive part of CLKA? |
