Have you cut back from eating out?

Not bcs of the cost. In the last four weeks I ate pizza hut once, no other fast food. Went to Texas Road house once in four weeks. I cook.

Eating out is soo bad for your health. Once I started cooking more I realized how shitty the food was.

I’m so surprised the restaurant owners haven’t bombed this yet. I assumed there were tons on this board.

We haven’t. Just increased the budget. I’m not cooking 7 nights a week or packing my lunch every day. I work to make money so I don’t have to do things like meal prep.

This is an overstatement. There are plenty of ways to eat out and have it be healthy.

I stopped getting breakfast out myself, it use to be for money but now it’s on principle, breakfast $30 out? $4+ for coffee?

That amount could help fund 10 years of a kid's education in a developing part of the world. 10 years!

So over the course of a year you don’t spend $1000 on ANYTHING unnecessary?

Caffeine is good for your heart health this week.

Gosh please tell me when red wine is back on the healthy list. I cannot wait.

Never. Current research on wine is confirming the studies completed a few years ago that indicated any amount was ultimately bad for you, with significantly increased risks for multiple types of cancer, as well as liver issues, cognitive decline, and cardiovascular disease (stroke, atrial fibrillation, infarction, etc).

However, it's true that coffee news is good - but it doesn't mean you should overdose on caffeine, especially if you have high blood pressure, and drinking copious amounts can affect your sleep, cause stomach issues (it's very acidic) and decrease the strength of your bones and teeth. Also, it sure as heck doesn't mean that the crap drinks with tons of added sugar are in any way good for you. No loaded drinks at Starbucks, you'll increase your risk of diabetes.

This is all true. But, FYI that you are going to die one day regardless. And occasional glass of wine or Frappuccino isn’t going to change that very much. Live your life.

I have been spending money to splurge a bit more at the supermarket. A few more prepared items, but nothing crazy since supermarkets are price-gouging too.

I don’t understand this. We have tons of mom and pop restaurants near us (Arlington/Falls Church) from all kinds of cuisines that I’d never make on my own and they are tasty. At lunch in DC, plenty of sandwich and salad places that make things way more interesting than my sad desk lunch.

Yes. It’s good for your wallet and your health. I’m already noticing improvements in my glucose levels and overall health.
Everything has added sugars to make you addicted and to spend more $$ on their crap.

NP. It’s not an overstatement. Even a “healthy” salad has added sugars.

We used to go out twice a week, usually once on the weekend and once during the week. Now we only go out if my mom takes the kids so once every month or so and it's usually a disappointment.
Anonymous
We continue to go out once a week or get takeout.

It's Friday night date night.

But we are starting to cut some restaurants off the list as they have gone downhill.

We try to keep it to $100 or less.

People, repeat after me:

Dining out
Dining out
Dining out

Stop saying “eating out” in this context!

No it doesn’t. That’s ridiculous .There are a ton of places where you can choose the ingredients in your salad and avoid added sugars.

We have cut back drastically on ordering in, dining out and fast food. We were getting the above 2-3 times a week and now we're down to maybe once every 2 weeks. The cost was outrageous.
