Fairfax County may close a nature center!

Since it is free it is no surprise it is closing.

We apparently live in a pay-to-play world now and the non-rich get to enjoy life through their phones.

You can see the pay-to-play world in all the posters who think it is beneath their time to volunteer for the PTA or a rec sports league because hey, they can just pay for cool experiences and travel sports teams for their kids.

With food prices so high I don't think the meals tax is going to be popular anytime soon.

It doesn’t matter because it’s no longer subject to a vote of the people - the BoS can just vote on their own to institute one. Sadly.

Can we just fully fund the port-o-john cleaning??? Seriously, I can tolerate a lot of other deferred maintenance for a clean toilet.

That's a false choice. If they close a nature center, that $ isn't going to be diverted directly over to the schools budget. We need both for good quality of life.

but the schools dont have enough money to even hire more teachers.

The schools cry poor while spending money on consultants to conduct surveys they plan to ignore (middle school start times, but there have been so many over the past few years) or do external reviews they don't really use for much (AAP in 2020) or the boundary consultant mess. They continually add more "executive principals" like the one in charge of literacy when the state is handing down curricula so why do we need that?

They could make some cuts at Gatehouse without hurting the quality of education and hire more teachers.

Well, the schools certainly do need more money! Were you aware it costs costs half a MILLION dollars or more, to re-name just ONE school in FCPS?

This is important because if a school has a name that’s associated with a offensive racist person, like a former slave owner, then the children in that school won’t feel safe, and won’t be able to learn. And there are still many more schools which need to be renamed.
