| I'm laughing at the lady using "Cartier doesn't sell silver" as an argument that silver isn't fine jewelry. The $2500 cufflinks beg to differ. |
|
I'm a poster who said earlier I have Tiffany items bought secondhand. I have a ring with an ideal cut diamond with an HCA score of 1.2, which I would put up against a similar stone from Brian Gavin Diamonds or Whiteflash any day.
I do think gold is gold and diamonds are diamonds but if you know what you're looking for, good secondhand deals can be had. |
| Real gold is important, but I can’t tell the difference between real and fake diamonds. |
DP. Cartier and VCA aside, do you see a lot of silver worn by old money? No. |
| What about some of the lesser known Italian brands like Repossi, Buccellati, etc. Are they more worth the money? |
Never. It’s for the cheaper stuff. Those Cartier cuff links in silver are the cheapest option. You can blab on all you want. If it’s not antique or vintage or ethnic and it’s silver - it’s cheap. The end. |
Yes those are the “affordable” choice. Because silver is cheap. |
| I'm from a culture where silver is only used for feet (anklets and toe rings), but it's nice silver. |
|
I’m laughing at the posters who are sneering at silver. I imagine they don’t realize that a lot of what they think is silver is actually platinum - which is far more expensive and precious than gold.
I used to work with a woman who had the most gorgeous platinum pieces of jewelry. She looked so classic and expensive without being flashy and ostentatious. |
| No one is sneering at platinum. We’re sneering at SILVER. Everyone knows platinum is nicer and more expensive than gold. |
It is incredibly easy to tell the difference. Nobody who actually buys jewelry and is interested in it is confused. Other than you, apparently. |
Gold is far more expensive than platinum right now. |
|
Here are the current prices. Gold is 1.5 times more expensive than platinum currently and about 90 times more expensive than silver which is again cheap.
Gold $2,433.00 Silver $27.47 Platinum $930.00 Palladium $941.00 |
| I like jackweirandsons.com who has estate jewelry |
No, silver is soft and impractical to wear daily. It makes no sense to use it in a setting for expensive stones. We are not confused. |
