PP, I'm reporting back. Another PP stated Aldi's is currently carrying a 2-cup rice cooker. I found it just as PP said! I made 3/4 cup of long grain rice. First rinsed it and let it dry on paper towels. I sauteed the onions in a combination oil and butter for a few minutes, added the rice, continuing to saute. Microwaved College Inn chicken broth to heat it up while rice was sauteing. Added a diced carrot to the rice and sauteed briefly. Transferred the rice to the rice cooker, and added the chicken broth in a 2:1 ratio to the rice. Covered and let it cook. When rice was done the cooker automatically flipped over to warm mode. Good news and bad news. The good news is the rice cooked up fluffy, the way I prefer it. The bad news is it was on the dry side, and the bottom layer was a little browned. I'm certain I wasn't supposed to heat the chicken broth, but tried anyway. That likely caused the rice to dry out and the bottom to burn a bit. This was the learning curve: don't try to speed up the process by heating the liquid, lol. But it handled the sauteed rice and the broth just fine! |
