APS Middle School (Rising 6th Grade) Math Placement

My rising 7th grader doesn’t have one. Maybe they only do one if you’re in a class outside of the typical progression.

I don't think they have posted them yet.

I just looked and have not received it for a WMS 8th grader who was in pre algebra last year. I checked the 7th grade letter and all it says is "july".

Email sent to staff says they will be uploaded on the 12th

Letters posted. Looks like they only took into account 5th grade SOL and 5th grade MAP scores. Nothing from 4th grade SOLs, despite what the website says, and not COGAT because they aren't available.

My daughter's letter listed a CogAT score - do most 6th graders not have this? She did a homeschool group for the Covid year and took the CogAT when she returned in third grade. Her scores on this were slightly below the cut-off and she was placed in Math 6 despite a 570 SOL and 250 NWEA. Seems weird that they would consider that if most students don't have those scores.

Okay, we are missing cogat scores and one score is higher than cutoff and the other is slightly under. What do we need to bring to further discuss changing our child's recommendation from Math 6 to pre-algebra?

Contact the math coach for your child’s school – listed in the letter.

Do Hamm and Kenmore really share a math coach? Or is that a typo?

Contact math coordinator. We were in same situation. Math coordinator reached back out to us said after looking at Cogat, she changed our kids placement to pre algebra. Kid just finished 7th grade algebra and got a 600 on SOL.

I have a feeling they are missing one, so the Math supervisor Seward is covering both schools

It's such a mess that this class don't have a Cogat score.

I too have a kid who has one over and one under and has taken an IQ test and got a 130+. However, they have anxiety and I think I'm going to just let APS put them in the first math and let them be. (has ADHD which is why we did the test; part of Dx-ing).
