Before I was married with kids I worked in PG and recall the first thing people would say to someone relocating to the area with kids is that they should move to MoCo for the schools. Things have changed and if you have minority children PGCPS has the best outcomes

Hmm. My daughter is heading into her senior year and my son graduated last year. I don’t really have any significant complaints. What’s so bad about MCPS?

MCPS is definitely in serious trouble and needs a significant effort to turn it around. Good luck to the next superintendent who has a monumental mess to clean up.

This is true.

My two youngest just graduated and I’m looking forward to another decade of teaching in MCPS. Going forward, I only have to fight the system on a single front.

I have siblings in smalll town Massachusetts and their schools seem really great. Same with friends in New Hampshire. The county system here is skmewhat challenging.

The township system is great for students and teachers in wealthy towns and not great for those in poor ones.

Same situation as the OP (moved for the schools and now moving out), and I would advise people to choose a home in a cheaper area and go private or at least retain the ability to do so. Don't extend yourself on a mortgage to have them in a particular MCPS school and assume it's a solid choice.

I did leave and took my $300k income with me across the river to Virginia. That is one reason MCPS is cutting the budget, their wealthy tax base is leaving in part due to the decline of school.

And yet most of these are just scams that can do well because they aren't required to educate all children just the ones that are easy.

Taking care of bright, motivated and eager students is not a scam. Someone need to make sure that we are building up our future resources versus housing criminals in the making.
