Do "IVY rejects" go to SLAC?
|
Nope, they are done for. No college for them. It’s Yale or jail |
Yes, top LACs are tougher.. they dont take IVY rejects |
This is very much the case at our school. |
Someone should stab you to death and feed your organs to rats. |
Duke is better than half of the ivies |
| They reject nearly everyone, so everywhere else. |

It's not 1980 anymore. All of these schools have single digit acceptance rates. Maybe Chicago in ED2, but none of these schools are backups for anyone. |

First off, not everyone prioritizes Ivies. My DC is at a WASP SLAC, and it seems like most of the kids who got in RD there chose it over one or more Ivies or Ivy+ schools, my DC included.
For the true prestige-hunters who don't get into any Ivies (the "rejects"), I assume that they simply look at USNWR's rankings and pick the next most prestigious school that admitted them. I think most of this type are highly likely to pick a university over a SLAC simply because the former has more mainstream recognition. But they might pick a WASP SLAC over a T20-T30. Otherwise, it'd depend on the Ivy they prioritized. For example . . . . Dartmouth fans would probably look at Williams (which is as difficult to get into as Dartmouth), Colgate, Middlebury, and Hamilton, all of which offer strong academics in a outdoorsy, isolated setting. Brown fans would probably consider Wesleyan, which offers an open curriculum and similar artsy/intellectual culture. And Columbia fans are likely to consider Barnard (if female identifying) or other semi-urban, rigorous SLACs like Swarthmore. |
| My 1540, 4.0 kid isn’t applying to a single Ivy. |
Wait. Is this a way to sneak Georgetown in? |
The Ivies were #3 and #4 on my kid's list. Berkeley and uChicago were the top choices |
