I went to NYU. I’m assuming it is geographic. I’m sure peoooe in the south love Emory. NYU has huge geographic advantage for finance. |
No, these academic rankings have nothing to do with geographics. |
There are many people that aren't interested in NYU...even kids interested in urban schools. The lack of a defined campus, the fact that STEM programs are over in Brooklyn, etc. Yes, it's great for Wall Street and the arts and a good school for many programs, but you won't even get the college experience of a Columbia or Penn. |
Yea like Singapore and Luxembourg have much higher GDP per capita(almost twice) than USA. How about reduce it to more comparable size like Williams Econ vs Stern Finance. After all, it is to see what gives you the most chance. Williams Econ major or NYU Finance major |
Yet, NYU is probably the private college receiving the most applications well over 100K |
The real irony is the majority of these kids got in with their fake charities and 'save the world' nonsense.
|
Wow...it's official, we now have the aggrieved NYU booster to add to the NEU, Emory and UVA boosters. Please, convince us now how NYU is actually better than the 34 schools ranked ahead of it. |
Just responded to 'There are many people that aren't interested in NYU' Why are you such a hater? |
Unless of course the implication is that people, systems and processes are smarter in the North. |
Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JP Morgan Chase and one of the most respected names on Wall Street, did his undergraduate studies at Tufts. Do you think he's telling their HR department to ignore applications from Tufts in favor of those from Emory? |
W&L is NYC -- tight connections there, lots of alumni (and lots of students from NYC area). |
Wall Street firms don't even recruit at many colleges -- have you heard of target and non-target. I'm sorry, but where you go to college does matter for finance (IB and consulting) jobs. |
Yet NYU still didn't make the adjusted ranking now did it? NYU grads do not get the same jobs Emory grads do. Despite being in New York and Emory in Atlanta. Emory grads make more. https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/search?page=0&sort=threshold_earnings:desc&search=Emory%20University https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/search/?page=0&sort=threshold_earnings:desc&search=New%20York%20University Emory is also just ranked. NYU boosters need to get over it. |
No but he's certainly not yelling HR to favor Tufts students. Also an Emory grad is CEO of Raymond James. |
They recruit where they do because that's where the greatest concentration of smart people with an interest in IB are located. It's efficient. It would be a stupid business decision, though, to refuse to look at applications from qualified applicants who went elsewhere. So yes, you're more likely to see a recruiter on campus at some places vs. others, but it doesn't give you a leg up on people with similar or superior skills from less known colleges. As I mentioned above, Jamie Dimon (CEO of JP Morgan Chase), went to Tufts. The CEO of Bank of America's investment branch went to Colgate. The CEO of Schwab went to Ohio U. The CEO of Fidelity went to Hobart and William Smith. Vanguard's chief investment officer went to Penn State and is in charge of a team that manages over 7 TRILLION dollars in assets. None of these people are going to let the name on the diploma get in the way of hiring talent. |
