| 22000 applications for 800 slots at Smeal. DS is so excited to be a freshman this fall. |
I'm one of them! It's a really special place for some of us. |
Does PSU publish that data somewhere? Can't find anything from a Google search. |
PP I got the stats from calling the business school's admissions office...not from Google. |
Omg people call and ask this stuff?!? Why? |
Do you care more about the University ranking or more about the ranking of the major your kid is applying to? |
What does the number of slots have to do with the ranking? And I didn’t care much about either for my kid. As long as she thought she’d be happy her school. |
Number of slots is not the number accepted. They factor in the yield rate, so the acceptance is likely 3x or more the number of slots. Penn State’s yield rate is 19% (so they would accept 5x the number of slots) but I will assume maybe it is higher for Smeal. |
| All giant states schools are the same with different weather and regional personalities. |
So people make decisions on their kids potential school using yield rate as a factor? |
|
Do you decide where your kid attends school? Does your kid have a say on where they might like to attend college?
|
Most people think about acceptance rates when applying to college…if they don’t provide direct information on acceptance you have to try to back into it through slots and yield rates. |
ignorant statement of the day |

I had never been to State College until we toured in December. My son got in early and fell in love. While we were still on campus he was ready to commit. He said the vibe was right.
If your kid wants a big state school please take the time to visit, very easy drive from DC. It felt super safe, campus was easy to navigate and I loved the huge selection of majors as my kid is not firmly set on one |
| I wish DC was going in the fall. He got in, but chose another school. While I can understand. DH and I were definitely a bit bummed. We’re not alum, but loved it and it’s close to DC. |
