My son just wrapped up junior year at Penn State (Smeal College of Business). He knew he wanted a big State school experience - for him that meant football and Greek life. He got into Maryland, but it’s hard to get excited about College Park once you’ve seen State College, which is sort of a quintessential college town, cozy and safe. He felt strongly that he wanted to go out of state because he knew so many kids at Maryland, and somehow going to Maryland didn’t feel like he was “going away.” Is this dumb? Yes. Would I have rather spent less? Also yes. But the extra money wasn’t a deal-breaker for us.
He has loved his time there. He has made a great group of friends. He has enjoyed his classes. He has loved the sports. And the on-campus recruiting has been terrific. He had offers from two impressive companies for summer internships. A big school isn’t for everyone, but my kid has thrived at Penn State. |

Not OP. We haven’t visited yet but how big is the campus? Is it similar size to VT? Or is way bigger?

I would recommend that you visit. Its a crazy beautiful campus with a great coolge town . It is is in the middle of the state, kind of nowhere PA BUT STILL REALLY COOL!
