Someone is green with envy! |
Literally every musical is. I stopped going to musicals because they are all so overated. |
| Just saw it on Broadway during spring break with my kids. WOW--I am late to the party but the show blew me away and my younger one is now into the music so we listen to it together pretty frequently now. My teen saw it with my husband 8yrs ago when it first came to DC and at the time I just wasn't as interested. My SIL saw it with LMM and the original case and was trying to explain to me how the show was life changing and I remember scoffing at her remark. Lifechanging--okayyy. Over time, I got to know the music a little and saw parts of it on Disney+ but never really sat down to watch the whole thing, but seeing it in person and maybe because it was on Broadway was just amazing. I loved it. |

We saw it on Broadway with the original cast, on a night with no substitutes. The show was electric.
If someone sees it on the road, with a mediocre cast, then maybe it could seem overrated. But that can be true of any show. I would also guess that it is harder to get enough great actors on the road to be able to perform the caliber of songs required. As already mentioned, the words per minute is off the charts. |

I thought Hamilton on Broadway was incredible. The soundtrack is also great to listen to, but I think you have to go to the Broadway theater to really connect with the story emotionally. Disney+ just wasn’t the right format to showcase the brilliance of it. You have to be in that NY theater - which is really pretty small - and right there in the same space with the performers to feel it in the right way.
And I loved even though I saw it without the original cast - so I can’t imagine how kind blowing the opening run was like. Now, if you saw it on Broadway and still didn’t like it, I’m not sure you are a true Broadway musical person. But as far as I’m concerned, Hamilton was one of the all time great Broadway shows. |
This is so true. We also saw it on Broadway with the original cast and it was so good. The excitement of the crowd was difficult to describe. That said, the original cast was so incredible but LMM was the weak spot. Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Renee Elise Goldsberry and Christopher Jackson were top of their game. We saw it in Chicago and thought Miguel Cervantes was better as Hamilton than LMM. Original casting can make or break a show. We also so Dear Evan Hansen soon after it opened with Ben Platt and the original cast. We then saw it again at the Kennedy Center with the touring cast. It was like two different shows - one amazing and one mediocre. Casting makes a huge difference. |

I love Hamilton.
I love In The Heights. I love Moana. |

Aww I really liked it
I liked Moana too |
| I am definitely not a theater person and I spent the whole thing (watched from comfort of my own couch) feeling cringed out and wondering wtf was the appeal. Are people really finally acknowledging that it sucked? That's great to hear. |
| These responses are so weird. I am liberal and like musicals and I didn't care for Hamilton. |
| It seemed very long to me. I made it through the first half. That being said, it got a lot of children interested in fairly obscure early American history (beyond heroes and holidays). That's a feat. - teacher |
| Lin-Manuel Miranda ain’t Gershwin. |
Not too surprising. Hamilton is a different kind of musical. Many of the fans don't like other musicals. I'm glad there are different options. |
I bet being a contrarian hater is a delightful way to live. Sorry the world is passing you by. |
LMM doesn't have the best voice but was great as young upstart precocious teenage brat Hamilton. He didn't work so well as adult Hamilton. He obviously wouldn't have been cast as the lead if it wasn't his show. |
