We saw it on Broadway with the original cast, on a night with no substitutes. The show was electric. If someone sees it on the road, with a mediocre cast, then maybe it could seem overrated. But that can be true of any show. I would also guess that it is harder to get enough great actors on the road to be able to perform the caliber of songs required. As already mentioned, the words per minute is off the charts.
This is so true. We also saw it on Broadway with the original cast and it was so good. The excitement of the crowd was difficult to describe. That said, the original cast was so incredible but LMM was the weak spot. Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Renee Elise Goldsberry and Christopher Jackson were top of their game. We saw it in Chicago and thought Miguel Cervantes was better as Hamilton than LMM. Original casting can make or break a show. We also so Dear Evan Hansen soon after it opened with Ben Platt and the original cast. We then saw it again at the Kennedy Center with the touring cast. It was like two different shows - one amazing and one mediocre. Casting makes a huge difference.
