| Can anyone compare Holy Cross to Providence College? My kid is interested in applying to both, she likes the basketball tradition at Providence, but of course Holy Cross has a better academic reputation. Any other insights? Surrounding areas? Composition of students? Job placement ? |

Holy Cross is much more academically rigorous than PC.
Holy Cross is on par with BC for applicants. PC is more aligned with Fairfield. |
Yet his daughter goes to Emerson So while BS wishes he was at an sec school, he sure as heck wouldn’t want his dd to be a southern 304 |
I wouldn't call Bill Simmons "famous." |
That's clearly yield protection. |
HC admits 2/3 of its class early decision. If you want to go, better do it that route. They don’t want to be your safety. |
| This is nothing unique to Holy Cross. No skin in the game, a fine school. Acceptance rates down at many many fine schools |
Yes, ED (I or II) is an obvious route to Holy Cross admission. Regular decision is quite a bit more difficult than early decision at HC as they are not looking to accept students who are not very seriously looking to attend. Demonstrated interest (as opposed to spectacular SAT/ACT or a string of AP 5's or National Merit Accolades) is the best way to navigate the HC regular decision process. By pumping up their number of applicants - and carefully selecting those most likely to attend if accepted - Holy Cross has a formula to drive down their admission rate. The fact they are test score optional obscures any insights on whether accepted student academic qualifications have become more stringent as their acceptance rate declines. |
| I don’t think Class of 2025 is a good place to start as it was the first year of COVID admission cycle |
