And what difference does it make where he was murdered? It sounds like they got home from school, and had a fight. Not really enough time to go home and get a gun, which means the student likely had the gun at school. The shooting was at 3:30, school dismissal is 3:00, they likely took the bus home so that's right around when they would be getting off the bus.

Same as yesterday's post "shooting at McNair" implying an occurrence at McNair ES when in reality it was the surrounding McNair neighborhood. Obviously these are titled this way to give the appearance of dangerous schools to show up in news and search results.

Dude, everything is not about politics. A parent whose kid is at Westfield HS posted this, not some troll with an agenda. Sorry that the exact wording was not to your liking but jesus christ have some perspective.

100%. Also there are many non-native first gen parents in our community. Wording isn’t intended to be shocking. It’s intended to make others who have kids there aware. It’s horrible and devastating to hear. I’m so sorry to hear this.

Yes, the title is intended to make parents aware of a school shooting. But there wasn't a school shooting. So the title is misleading and causes confusion and panic.

+1 I have to agree.

+2.

But the posters who start these threads usually want to encourage trash talk about the schools so they forsake accuracy.

You are blinded by your own politics. The thread was started by a worried parent.

We are all worried parents. What politics are you talking about?

But what are we worried about? A teen was murdered. That's terrible. But it didn't happen at school.

+1 but they want to make you think the kid had a gun all day at the school so the school isn’t safe. We don’t know what happened.

It seems possible he had the gun at school,
But we don't even know if he was a student. Its just speculation.

Dismissal is at 2:50. Kids are usually off the bus around 3:20. We don’t know if they were on the bus even.

I have a kid at WFHS who I pick up frequently. The buses pull out around 3:10-3:15.
His pm bus stop dropoff is around 3:40, and we live much closer to the school than the Coates area.

I will add that he texted me and said kids have been being pulled out all day to leave (he has lax and wasn't angling to leave early).
The police came to his first class and pulled a kid out and he came back after a few minutes.

With our lack of gun control, none of our kids are safe anywhere. Schools or anywhere else. Gun violence is not something fcps can control.

How awful. Just terrible.

This article says shots were fired at 3:33 pm, which tracks with having just gotten off the bus or home from school (assuming they were at school that day)

This is a weird article. What different does it make where the airport is located, this had nothing to do with the airport.

I think bots generate the articles.

NP. Oh come on. We know what this is - part of a very political effort to downplay crime and stop people from talking about it. It’s a well known playbook.

The click-bait titles are part of a very political effort to call more attention to crimes by implying they occurred at schools where many students are present, even if they did not. It’s a well-known playbook.

It's a reference point for people not entirely aware of where Coppermine Rd might be. The Fox news reporter also referenced the airport, since it is nearby.

Parents can also be pushing a political agenda. The title thread is misleading, perhaps intentionally so.

They *can* but it doesn’t seem like this OP is trying to push any agenda. OP is posting that a student died and there are police in the school. It seems to be a post to share info, not to push any agenda. I don’t find the thread title misleading at all.

Yeah so - no discussion of crime at all, right?

there is literally zero misleading about the title, especially considering the context (DCUM, not exactly a bastion of perfect diction)

The rumor amongst the kids is that both the shooter and the victim were 9th graders who attended Carson MS last year. Police were at the school today questioning kids in that friend group.
