| I find it hard to believe that this President has any trouble "reaching across the aisle". It seems he can't fart in the wind without upsetting someone. Hey Mr. President start flying Southwest and stand with the American people ! It's the economy stupid! |

| I think the trip to Spain is a little politically tone deaf, although I certainly don't begrudge them their vacations. 30 rooms at a 5 star hotel? And bringing a bunch of friends along (who will pay commercial rates, but still require all the security, etc. and whose names aren't released)? And vacations coming up in Martha's Vineyard and the Gulf Coast? It's a lot at a time when people are really hurting. But it's not going to stop me from voting for him in 2012. But he better start showing some political cojones. That Shirley Sherrod thing made me mad. |

And that's the bottom line--the rest of this stuff is all political B.S. The President's problem is that he's constantly trying to pander to folks that hate him, and everything he stands for, at the expense of his political coalition. |

I wouldn't leave the kids home. He traveled for nearly 2 years and the kids stayed behind in Chicago. Would you leave your kids? Going to Chiago is difficult on the neighbors - they shut down the neighborhood.
Why not go to a national park and the Gulf coast to encourage people to go there? Spain might be a little much, but Michelle was invited by the King for a state visit. And the security is overwhelming, expensive and complicated. I love running up to NYC to see a show and go for dinner, but it's not like the Secret Service will let you take Vamoose.... I want to know what else we are going to do about Afghanistan. |

I am an extremely left wing progressive and I have a lot of problems with Obama. I will vote for him over a Republican because I find the Republican party so objectionable.
But I think criticizing him about vacations is beyond the pale. Our society makes it so difficult for anyone to be President, with constant surveillance and gotcha journalism and crazies lurking everywhere. Why begrudge him his vacations? Let's leave some semblance of choice and family life, otherwise we'll only get the nutjobs who don't really care about those things. |

Instead of these questions, Democrats should be asking themselves the following:
Why is Larry Summers still advising the president on the economy? Wy did Obama waste an entire year pandering to Republicans who were NEVER going to support his healthcare proposals? Why is Wall St. still so cozy with the administration, so that meaningful reform just can't get done? Why are we escalating the war in Afghanistan at such a huge cost in human life and our treasury when it does nothing to protect us? And so many more questions .... |

ITA with PP and OP. When people are still losing jobs, losing their homes or cutting every corner to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table, the Obama's lifestyle is excessive. Did they really travel so often and so luxuriously and throw so many luxury parties with $100 steak per person, before Obama became President? Doubt it. Can't hold the State dinners and cost of entertaining heads of other nations against them but the vacations (so far 3 this summer), the WH concerts and parties when taxpayers are squeezed makes it seem very insensitive. |

It's not a state visit since Michelle is not a head of state. It's a vacation during which she'll meet the King of Spain. The trip to NY also results in overwhelming security and inconvenience to all in that area. |
