9. Cornell
10. Brown

How does this compare to the thoughts in your households?

In our house:

1. Harvard
2. MIT
3. Stanford
4. Princeton
5. Duke
6. Caltech
7. Yale
8. Columbia
9. Penn
10. Dartmouth

What kind of house do you live in where its members would actually come up with, much less agree upon, a list like this? Do you really sit around and rank schools all of which are likely to reject most of the children of DCUM posters?

PP probably has an elite team education background along with the spouse?

I have two Ivy degrees and know a fair amount about all these schools. But my household doesn't try to reach a consensus on how these schools should be ranked. That just seems like an exercise in pretentiousness.

Agree, a household ranking schools here based on what exactly? Each individual should care about different things and likely have a different rank. And for what purpose would this rank serve? Completely pointless unless someone is actively making a decision. What kind of nonsense is this.

University Of Southern California should be on list.

This is the parents' dream list...and, yes, MIT is on it. I've actually been cornered while grocery shopping by parents wanting to pick my brain about how to get their kid in because I was wearing an MIT shirt. It's crazy.

Or it's just a lie...

Dream college lists can vary quite a bit based on students' goals and preferences. Mine is interested in banking and finance. He has Wharton as an extreme reach, Dartmouth as a regular reach, and then schools like Williams, Bucknell, and Colgate. A student who wants to study literature, or biology, will probably have a much different list.

That seems like a school it’s difficult to tell other people you want to attend but would report on an anonymous survey.
