Should I make my left-handed child write with right hand?

Yeah right. Left handed people are already forced to do a lot right handed things because so much is built for the right hand.

Some things are easy for left handed people to do right handed. Handwriting and throwing are not easy to change.

No. It is not 1945.

+1

Ambidextrous people are smarter.

I doubt it but if that were true then left handed people would be smarter. Most lefties are ambidextrous by necessity. My great grandmother, grandmother, mother, me and my 2 dd are all left handed. Also my two sisters. All the females.

It doesn’t cause psychological damage or trauma. People did this decades ago all over the world. Left handed is Sinestra in Italian and Spanish which implied it was evil or bad.

I was not abused and don’t even remember it being done.

There were kids that were abused and slapped on the hand which it traumatizing. That is sooo wrong.

I don’t see a reason to do this anymore.

Countless posts right here that explain the trauma. Are you denying that?

I have an older relative that had lifelong executive function issues and the general consensus in the family is that it was caused by being forced to write with his write hand when he was left handed.

I’m left handed but do a lot of things right handed (scissors, pitching a ball, holding a tennis racket etc) out of force of necessity. I have an uncle that was forced to switch from left to right handedness in the 50s and he describes it as traumatic.

I’m sure some were traumatized. Most were not.

There some kids traumatized doing math or I was traumatized in chorus singing in front of my class. Please stop it. There are many cultures that did this. You will always have extremes. Most are fine and have moved on.

It literally causes brain damage.

I’m so tired of science denial. It’s like every ducking fact is up for ground. Hey guess what I can see the edge of the earth- it’s flat. Anyway the sun’s over the yard arm and it’s a good thing.

Some of those sounds like my in-laws. We grew up cheering on lead cribs and we’re fine!

People, there’s nothing wrong to ask a question or to be shamed about. What’s wrong with you?

Please share scientific or research articles on this and then talk.

There are 71 response. That does not constitute countless.

Brain damage? Really?

Maybe not ideal but it does not cause brain damage. Were you one of these lefties that was brain damaged!! You sound like an idiot.

It's a pencil not a shovel. There's no reason to attempt to etch the paper. Apply light pressure and it works fine.

How much writing is someone going to be doing in modern society anyway? Who wrote their post using a stylus?

My mother still talks about it. Small town Canada they tied her left hand behind her. She still has bad handwriting. I remember I needed a note signed by her in high school and the teacher said his 7 year old could write better than that. It was degrading to my mother and made me feel bad.
How must it feel to have your arm tied in front of the class.

The last time this was a thing was before the 1950s. What planet is your mother on? No one would ever train a left handed child to write with their right hand. And for what possible reason.

I am a little concerned about someone of your age asking this unbelievable question, but I will consider the fact that you might be from a different culture- but, even then....something is weird here.
