| I would plant some hedges right up against the gate. |
| get a sign that says "please don't cut through my yard" or 'no tresspassing" |
| ^^ and spell it right. |
| We did the same thing without asking- added a gate so the kids wouldn't have to climb the fence. We didn't want the neighbors to have an opportunity to 'vote' on the idea. It's necessary for safety. |
Entitled much? |
Um…tell your kids to not climb the fence. Just as effective for safety. |
Climb the fence for WHAT??? |
To trespass, obviously. |
Put one section of fence directly in front of the gate. It will be impossible for anyone to enter your yard from their side. He'll get the message. What a weirdo. |
| I had this situation and planted a row of bushes along the fence/gate. |
| I put gates when I put up fences. I just think that you never know when you or your neighbor might need to access the other yard. |
How is it necessary for safety? |

OP,
Are you ever returning to tell us any specifics on who is cutting through your and your neighbor's yards and where are they going? In decades of suburban life, both as an adult and a kid growing up, I have never seen a fenced yet with a gate to another's so that it can be used as a cut through. Agree with pp above, check your title ins.(?) for this allowance. |
| Why are people cutting through your yard? |

OP, there's no other fence around your backyard, is that right?
All the backyards in my neighborhood are fenced, and when the neighbor behind us replaced their fence, they very kindly put a gate in so my kids could easily retrieve baseballs, frisbees, etc. Unfortunately, as the neighbors got older, they got careless about remembering to keep the gate closed, which meant that when I let our dog out into our backyard, he could escape through the gate. I asked them a couple of times to please make sure the gate was latched. They said they would, but they didn't. So I added a lock. But if people can cut through the yard anyway, I'm not sure what the problem in with having a gate. Are all the other backyards fenced? |
