Yes, but you will be paying $10K/year more at UVA for the same degree.

The same degree, not the same experience, and not the same network. Dive into what that 10,000 extra brings. I’m sure you can easily find the difference if you explore both school tours.

Except that UVA doesn't have better experience or alumni network. My kids tours both schools. All three of them liked VT much better. None attending either though as they wanted to get out of VA.

Because YOUR kids chose another school does not mean that UVA doesn't have a better experience of alumni network. It is generally considered the top school in VA. It is the name that opens doors, VT does open some, but UVA opens more. That's a fact. It's significantly higher ranked in overall rankings. I am glad your kids like VT, my kids hated it. Your personal TOUR experience is meaningless to the OP.

Yes, UVA is smaller, but it isn't exactly Princeton-sized. It is close to 18,000 undergraduates.

and VA Tech is nearly double that...

UVA CS Dept is in the School of Engineering, which school is a bit over 2000 total undergraduates (or a bit over 500 students/year, spread across all the E-School Departments).

VT's CS program is visibly larger than UVA. VT's E School is wildly larger than UVA's E-School.

Pick the best for for one's own DC. Some students will thrive at a larger school. Others will thrive at a smaller school.

Both are great schools but if I had a stem kid I would choose VT and then go to UVA for grad business school later on.

UVA is over 3X Princeton enrollment. Princeton is midsized. VT is 70% larger than UVA.

But it is more difficult to get into UVA's grad student if not an undergrad. Same with the UVA law school.

Why do you say that? Most grad school admissions are stat driven.

DP. Wow, someone is triggered. The PP is correct. Nothing about UVA is somehow “opening more doors” than VT. Sorry.

That’s not been DS’s experience as a UVA grad. At all. Sorry. The UVA alums have been very supportive .

Grad schoo with the UVA law school.

Grad schools protect their own university. Go look up the number of UVA grad at UVA law. Or Harvard grads at Harvard.

A bigger network and more down to earth people. UVA is stuffy!

Is UVA direct admit for CS? I didn't think so. Isn't the consideration the same?

It is ranked at least top public school than VT. They both good school but if we look at the one that gives you better connection and peer group to compete that would be UVA based on the stat of the admitted students and acceptance rate.
