Less than 4k including airfare?

Don't believe them. They've been asked questions by other PP's and haven't replied to any of them. As I said upthread, you can't even do a domestic, average beach vacation for 10 days for under $4k. Heck not even $5k! This person used perks of some kind, or they forgot to add a "1" in front of that $4k.

I’m the pp who asked and I agree something is up. We went last summer and paid close to $18k all in for four people for close to two weeks. Flights alone were about $2k per person!

LAX to London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice. Includes 4 Star hotels (we do not want short term rental homes). First class rail, all air travel, all airport transfers, $800 tour credits for any tours we may choose. We are considering dropping one city from the itinerary, but for the time being does this quote seem fair?

Thanks!

Seems about right, I suppose. Our family of four is spending a week in Paris in June. For four United Polaris business class tickets IAD-CDG, limousine airport transfer, 6 nights in the 3 Bedroom Suite at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, nightly Michelin 1-2 Star dining, and general spending money we’re planning about $12K.

Dumb joke post Just those business class tickets alone would be $4k/person in June, and that hotel probably $2500/night for a large suite.

Not really. The clever traveler pays for coach and uses PlusPoints and Global Services status to upgrade to business class. The clever traveler pays for a regular room and uses a combination of a suite upgrade and Lifetime Globalist status to secure an upgrade to a multi-room suite.

I feel bad for the unsophisticated travelers that actually pay cash for such things. So foolish…. These travelers should just be taking long weekends to Virginia Beach (or Long Beach for those in the vicinity of LAX) and leave the international travel to the experts.

Haha, you’re talking about road warriors who need to spend at minimum $50k/year on United to get GS. And lifetime globalist would take $200,000 spend on Hyatt. So, yep, this is so far beyond the reach of 98 percent of travelers it is laughable.

Yup I thought this PP was making a dumb joke, but now I know is just an idiot.

Nah, just a consultant who has to go to St. Louis twice a month. Got to Silver last year, and spends too much time on Flyertalk trying to figure out how to get to Gold in 2024. Seethes inside every time he boards a plane and walks by the 1Ks who got upgraded, only confirming into Econ Plus at check-in.

This post is his equivalent of writing to the Penthouse forum: "I never thought it would happen to me...". He wrote it from the United Club in the basement at Dulles, using one of the 2 passes he gets each year from his Chase United explorer card.

Yes. Airfare was $578 from Chicago. Rental car was $700 I think? We stayed in $100 b and bs with free breakfast, bought one more meal a day. Took Ryan air to Dublin for like $78 and left from there. $125 hotel
in downtown Dublin for two nights.

How many people do you think have Global Services? As someone who actually has Global Services, upgrading a whole family to Polaris is pretty difficult.

Same here - GS and it’s really hard to do especially in peak summer.

DH used to have GS. We never all got upgraded. He almost always did. They even would hold the plane for him and have a car to shuttle him across the airport. But we never all got upgraded. Not once.

This sounds right. We paid about $12,000 this past summer for family of 5 in cheaper end hotels and had our airfare on points. If not points it would have been about $20K.

Sounds like your DH was an uninformed and privileged GS (no offense, most are). My DH, on the other hand, knows the game. We just returned from a week long vacation to Sydney. Four tickets purchased in coach for $1100 each IAD-SYD; then upgraded to Polaris Business PZ for 480 PlusPoints total, all of which were slated to expire on 1/31/24. So, yeah, our entire family flew business class half way around the world for less than $5K…and we do this every year. We’ve already booked our summer vacation to PPT in business class on saver awards.

Time to trade up to a DH that is less of a dud?

I'd just do Italy and the south of France or Italy and Switzerland. Paris and London aren't so great.
