He stopped a month after his tonsils and adenoids were removed. DD wet the bed until she was 8. Their Dad also wet the bed until age 10 and has sleep apnea. Does your child snore? May be worth getting his sleep investigated?

Did they mind having the pull-ups that long?

They hated wetting the bed so they preferred to wear a pull up. They didn’t tell their friends but weren’t embarrassed around mom and dad.

Did you ever have issues with the pull-ups causing skin irritation or rash?

Both my son and older daughter wet the bed until 8/9. They still sleep like zombies at 11 & 13 and I'm convinced it is developmental and within normal. Generally, I’d recommend whatever strategy is best for your family to wait it out. FWIW, our younger daughter never wet the bed after 3 years with zero training/interventions but is a much lighter sleeper…

This isn't me, but I'm the one with an 8YO who still wets the bed every night. He sometimes does get a rash on his bottom from the pullup. He also got HORRIBLE diaper rashes as a baby so I do keep Lotrimin on hand and he tells me when he needs it.
