You should probably travel a little. There are tons of cool, livable farm to tableish type communities across the mid west. Hipsters and crunchy granola galore. Also cool music and art. Or just decent MYOB communities, except when neighbors help neighbors in times of need. There are still fairs, rodeos, bandstands and parades. Libraries and castles from the robber barons, odd little museums, heritage cuisines from pockets of migrants ranging from Norwegians to Laotians. When's the last time you enjoyed anything except a freaking protest or "safety walk" as a "community event" in DC? And not to mention the people across the midwest who break the stereotypes, like BLM supporting old school skinhead punks, dentists on motorcycles, hardworking feminists. Take a road trip. Stop hating your fellow Americans. A lot of America is really quite nice. Or just see what you want to see. |
| And sorry if I'm addressing the wrong person..sometimes hard to tell. Just over the sneering at flyover country - despicable term. |
Bingo. Zero credibility on the value of feds taking over DC when they don't even care that the city is swimming with illegal guns, 13 year olds are doing armed carjackings and in a lot of neighborhoods, on a routine basis one can hear full-auto gunfire from illegal conversion kits and extended mags. Congress won't do shit about it because the Republicans who think DC needs to be run by feds doesn't think it's a problem for 13 year olds to buy illegal guns or for illegal mods to continue to proliferate everywhere because they are so easy to get in neighboring states. Ridiculous. |
Name some of these communities. Much of the Midwest is composed of rural communities long past their heyday with an aging and embittered population trending ever rightward, and deindustrialized urban cores with crime and poverty issues that often match or exceed DC’s problems. |
| Curious whether the government is looking at adding hardship pay and unaccompanied tours for military or diplomatic families assigned to DC? It used to be a pricey but somewhat safe place. Now it's pricey and far more dangerous than other assignments . |
Every single Republican I know (and that’s a lot) think that criminals should not be allowed to have firearms. That criminals found with firearms should be thrown in prison and not released since they are obviously a danger to society. So instead of complaining about the guns, why don’t you get behind the idea of getting and keeping criminals off the streets. Criminals can’t get guns in prison, legal or otherwise. And all of those kids you’re talking about have criminal records (or they would have, if crime was actually being prosecuted properly). The solution is obvious and it’s not republicans who are the problem. |
"Sioux Falls is about as Midwest as you can get — in all the best ways. With stunning geography, a vibrant culture, and a safe and family-friendly environment, this South Dakota city consistently ranks as one of the fastest growing cities in the nation with booming businesses and projected job growth of 5% by 2023." Also named as one of the healthiest cities in the US ..just sayin' . |
We keep looking for these vibrant rural communities and small towns in the Midwest and have yet to find one. |
Sioux Falls is a city, not a rural community. |
This is the comment being responded to: "No, now please go back to whatever midwestern city you are from." Oh, snap! |
There are mostly MAGAs there. |
