UMN awarded an average of $5,366 in non-need based aid and only 14% of freshmen got anything. That's dogsh!t.

My FCPS son reluctantly applied to UMN last year. Offered $25k/yr. We were shocked. He end up choosing UMD.

Non need-based aid? That sounds more like an athletic scholarship or a need-based scholarship/grant.

We did not apply for financial aid nor is he a NCAA athlete. Sum of two scholarships
National ($15) and Gold Scholar ($10).

My son applied to the engineering school in Aug, accepted Sept, award letter Nov for $20k/year. 4.38 W, 10 APs, varsity team captain but not a recruited athlete, broad but not exceptional ECs, test optional. Not URM, not first gen, no hooks. No word yet about Honors.

DC is transferring out. It’s simply too expensive for the quality of instruction they have been receiving. No merit. Transferring to state flagship

How many semesters in and what major? Has DC asked for advice from a counselor in the intended major?

Just that they don't think they need to entice you to attend.

DS got into the school of computing, one of the first admits. No merit yet. Since then, has gotten into better ranked Big 10 schools so not even planning on visiting since they are too expensive. Need to be about $10-$15K cheaper than list price for Pitt to be in the ballpark for us. Rutgers, Indiana (for business) and Ohio State are all cheaper and higher ranked than Pitt so unless your kid is set on a city experience there's no point in going there.

4.1W gpa and 1380 Sat.

Accepted to business in early Nov. but no merit.

My son with similar (a tad lower) stats applied for business at the end of December and was waitlisted. I wonder if he had applied earlier if the outcome would have been different.

No idea. Supposedly well ranked, but I don't know enough about that space to have an opinion on Pitt's relative value.

DD just received $5K/year scholarship for Arts and Sciences. She is happy, after all the rejections and deferrals from last Friday.

What bothers me is their 6% tuition increase this year and posts I've read about that trend not going away anytime soon. As well, the lack/low level of funding from the State.

+10. Yes. The low level of state funding make it not as much of a “ value” if you are concerned with that
