Things you can’t do safely in DC

I was the victim of indecent exposure in an atm vestibule on Wisconsin Ave. early evening, a few weeks ago. Police came but did nothing, didnt even ask him to leave. The man basically lives in the atm vestibule. Still there tonight in his sleeping bag.

Would you accept sexual harassment at work? This is sexual violence. File a police report. When he attacks some kid, it will be on record the city did nothing. I'm so sorry that you were assaulted in this manner.

DC LAW
"It is unlawful for a person, in public, to make an obscene or indecent exposure of his or her genitalia or anus, to engage in masturbation, or to engage in a sexual act as defined in § 22-3001(8). It is unlawful for a person to make an obscene or indecent sexual proposal to a minor. A person who violates any provision of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined not more than the amount set forth in § 22-3571.01, imprisoned for not more than 90 days, or both"

This is a law of our city. Demand to speak with Frumin and the new commander of District 2.

Drive a 20 year old Toyota (like me)

Wear a lands end coat and have it not stolen (like me)

Use an android phone in public and no one even looks twice at it (like me)

Walk a mutt from the local shelter.

If you aren't styling and profiling, you have a much lower risk of getting robbed.

And if she wasn’t wearing that dress she wouldn’t be raped.

You could wear your designer clothes (at least in broad daylight as well as at night in well populated/nightlife areas) and walk a dog that you paid money for and have the latest iPhone and a new car … 10 years ago. It was a different place back then. What happened?

I went out a lot 10 years ago. Can't say that I remember anyone causally walking around in a mass market $2,000 Moncler puffer jacket.

Nobody cares about phones anymore. Your iphone isn't special.

Dogs though, that's messed up.

Nobody CARED about phones. That has changed. I was held up and gunpoint and told explicitly “I won’t take your wallet. Just your phone.”

Why were you in his home?

Hi, after we saw your post we have been calling in this person to 311 wellness checks every time we see him on our walks. My hope is that they actually move him into hospitalization (involuntary fine). As the victim of flashing myself as a child (traumatized) I feel for you and don't want my kid literally exposed to this man. She walks all the time to the Starbucks nearby. It is incredibly disturbing to me that he has not been arrested. Especially after the sex criminal attacked the daycare workers. Did you file a police report? Have you contacted Frumin? Have you gone to district 2 and reported this directly to the new police chief. Frumin is having some kind of community event this weekend and claims the attorney will be there. Please go and report this to all of them in person. This is not ok that he is still there tonight. You are the victim of a sex crime.

Frumin knows about this. Of course, nothing has happened. He’ll probably end up as my new neighbor in my apartment building and live for free while I’m stuck in a $2500/month lease that a can barely afford. This city is crashing.

The city is saying that the rights of the alleged - (has he been charged?) - indecent exposer trump the rights of the everyday woman, man or child exposed. How is this different than living as a woman, man, child under the Taliban? This city is stripping us of our rights to not be harmed and violated, and normalizing it as the new 'law'.

Get cash from an ATM lobby without some vagrant hanging out there flashing you - and then the DC police won’t remove him.

And they specifically demand that you unlock it so they can have access to all your financial apps, Venmo, Uber etc. And why not? Most people have $10 cash at most in their wallets, if you steal a credit card I can call or go on my account online and cancel it so quickly it will never work. But they can do a lot of damage if they have your phone unlocked.

In D.C. he has rights as a “tenant.”

Stand your ground when some thugs rob you. As a victim, you’d be charged in D.C. while the predators continue to hunt (and hurt) more prey.

Which means they don't care about the phone. They want what it has access to.

This guy needs to go, or residents will go. An alleged flasher is not a benign neighborhood 'fixture'
