Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
My school is also not a Title I. I'm the PP with a second grader with a class of 24 last year. We just happen to be a in a school that i think is great but is not in one of the wealthier neighborhoods. |
| I recommend the Pimmit Hills area which feeds to Lemon Road Elementary or Westgate Elementary if you don't mind buying in a neighborhood with generally smaller houses, but a great grided walking community. Soon both sides of the neighborhood will be within walking distance of the metro, you can walk to the regional library, walk to the parks, walk to the schools, and walk to two different shopping centers. You can get a new or renovated house around 2000 s.f. for probably $500,000. The Pimmit Hills area is great for commuting and Lemon Road for instance is the smallest school in the County. It even encourages uniforms which I think helps discourage competition between what childen where, etc. For GT services you can go to Haycock, middle school is at Kilmer which also has GT, and high school is at Marshall which is also small and has many great programs such as IB. |
I dont know about the religious part. I agree with the intense, concerned part ( although understatement of the year). But the parents are competitive than the kids. You talk to them for few minutes they will drive you crazy. My daughter goes to a preschool where I met atleast a dozen mantua moms who went on and on about AAP and Math Challenge and everything they need their kid to excel. My son is in 2nd grade and I am interested too but, they were obsessed about everything. I avoid even any eye contact with them. Stay away from Mantua if you are not that type. |
