| My 1st grader has a 1:00 lunch in MoCo public school and they have a snack around 11. |
| Oh awesome. The disordered eaters from the diet and exercise forum have made their way to the elementary school forum |
Yes, the disordered snacking all day snowball's parents have definitely made their way here. |
God forbid anyone mention food, ever. |
| I’m all for snacks but this doesn’t sound unreasonable. I’d tell my kid to sneak a bar into the bathroom or on the playground if they really couldn’t go until lunch and the teacher wouldn’t allow it. Judge away. |
I'm going to assume this was back in the day when water fountains were pretty much everywhere and people were actually allowed to use them. |
So if it is so reasonable why would iPod daughter need to sneak a snack? |
| This is 5th grade at a public school in Alexandria. I'm pretty sure it's typical of most elementaries in the city. |
I grew up in the 80's and never drank water at school and we all survived. |
Please. I’m 45 years old and a 3rd grade teacher and distinctly remember snack. Graham crackers to be exact. When kids have growing minds and bodies they need nourishment and not low blood sugar. My students would be off the charts irritable if we didn’t allow snack. I of course prefer something substantial with protein to hold them over. Unfortunately due to crowding some of the lunch times are outrageous. |
Americans (and kids as a result) don’t need less food. They need better food. I’m Italian and lived there for 27 years and go back a few times a year. When I’m in Italy I eat more food than in the US. I eat pasta, pizza, a crazy amount of meat, loads of cheese and bread, drink a lot of wine. Life revolves around food. Food is everything and it’s non stop. However it’s almost all local, and almost all made from scratch. I eat much less in the US because food here is very boring and utilitarian. |
Have you seen 5th graders? We aren’t talking about “tiny tummies.” |
