5 hours of school without lunch

Anonymous
Is this crazy? School starts at 8am it ends at 2:30 and children don't eat lunch until 1pm. They are NOT allowed a snack. That's 5 hours that children are supposed to be learning, running around doing physical activity most likely while hungry. This seems awful to me.

In our neighborhood one elementary school principal decided to ban snacks and the parents have started a petition against it. I think it’s crazy to do that to kids especially for younger grades.

Omg. Feed the kids a good breakfast. They are not going to starve after 5 hours. 1:00
Is a perfectly acceptable lunchtime if they ate a breakfast at 7:30.

I hate to have to break out my dusty old Gen X childhood, but we were never allowed a snack time in elementary school. And, amazingly, none of us died from dehydration even though we were never allowed water bottles in school. We used water fountains in a pinch, or, if they were too gross, we survived and drank at home.

1:00 is fine for lunch.

These are the same people on the other thread that think having a kid ride in a car for a few hours without a potty/snack break is cruel. Is it a little long to go without a snack sure. But if you feed the kid a good breakfast after a while they will get used to it.
You could always try to get the lunch time moved up but I don't think its that bad.

Not acceptable. Name the school. I would be having a words with the principal.

This. If it’s published Fact and not fear mongering, put the name here.

But they should t have to get used to it. People can get used to anything, but that is not always good.

What age group? I would be more concerned for kindergarten but not think twice about 3rd-5th.

This is my thought too. Maybe excluding K and 1st.

I agree with the food, but it's a big fat no on the water situation. 6 hours during the day without water is terrible for kids with tiny tummies.

Where did OP say they were denied water? Though I have to say I went to school and camp without any water bottles...

I think it's too long also. Most teachers don't go that long without eating unless they're purposely doing intermittent fasting.

No I didn't have snack time growing up, but I bet I would have concentrated more if I did.

The problem is parents sending in junk. A pack of 6 oreo cookies is not a good snack for kids.

Our schools has snacks but I don't think I would care too much if they didn't

People are nuts about snacks these days. I didn't have snacks at school as a kid.
