You say she is nice to your son. I would leave it be for now. Maybe she doesn't like working with the older kids, which indicates a switch may be needed when your son reaches that age group.

My daughter went to Kumon and did excel in math at the elementary school level. She is adopted from China. We were told that the teachers were told to not be so strict with children from non-asian families. It is a cultural thing. These kids work very hard to please the parents and succeed. The Kumon waiting room is filled with 90% Asian families. Expectations are very high. Education is very important and is placed above any sports or social activities for many of these kids. They do participate in other things but school is first. I too did not like the strict teaching methods for the older kids but I was not raised that way. If you want to have your young child exceed in math at the elementary school level I suggest an abacus class. We did this as well as Kumon. The idea is that eventually the kids visualize the abacus and are able to do the mental math very accurately and quickly. You can watch you tube videos of the competitions. This builds the confidence and helps them move into the more complex math in later years. We left Kumon once in middle school and found a tutor. My daughter ended up teaching young kids at Kumon during high school. When she interviewed for the job the owner of the franchise pulled her kumon records from 4th grade.( She still had them) She remembered her and truly cared. My daughter was always very kind with the kids who would see us at the local stores and were always excited to say hello. I don't know the Kumon franchise you refer to but I believe it is cultural.

op here. thank you. the teacher i don't like doesn't come on Wednesday so i could switch to this day so he can avoid all the yelling. i believe it distracts him from doing the work and we end up being there longer.

Don't people realize that these centers are staffed by people not paid well enough to pretend to care? I think the yelling and dismissive attitude is partially a put on to make the instructors seem strict and tiger mommish, but also a natural byproduct of not being particularly well paid or well treated by the employer.

She is the employer. OP is talking about the owner.

Anyway, I don’t get sending a 7 year old to Kumon. Everyone on DCUM says their kids just love going but I never met a kid in real life who enjoyed any of these math enrichment centers.
