I'm 51 and want to start using Retinol/Retinoids

What do you think.

I'm in my 60s and get good results from Roc retinol.

I have sensitive skin and my dermatologist recommended La roche posay b3 serum. I can definitely tell there’s irritation a few weeks in but it’s mild. So that could be a good OTC starter for people worried their skin will be unhappy.

Thank you to whoever recommended Dr Dray. I’ve been applying all wrong!

How often do you use it? And just a tiny amount I’m assuming?

Late to this thread and posting to recommend Angie Hot and Flashy on YouTube. She was a sun worshipper for decades then started tretinoin and sunscreen at 50. She’s 61, and her skin looks incredible. She posted a “50 vs 60” before and after video which you may find helpful.

I started tretinoin at 49, and three years later, I’m very happy with the results. I wear spf 50 every day, I wear hats for beach vacations, and it’s really no big deal.

The key for me was to start tretinoin very slowly to minimize irritation.

This thread is so helpful. OP, I’m glad you are seeing positive results.

I’m 55 , have sensitive skin and have only used moisturizer and sunblock since my 20s because I thought everything else would be irritating. I regret not using more products . I have marionette lines and several lines all around the mouth. I started using RoC products this month. Recently started the Roc Retinol and am starting to have some irritation. I’m going to take notes from this thread, make a dermatologist appointment to seek advice.

I started every other night and now I’m every night. I use a quarter size or so. It’s pretty mild and mixed with other serum stuff. So I don’t think the tiny amount applies.

I started with every other night but quickly moved up to every night. I didn't have any sensitivity and wish I had started with a higher concentration. I will move up soon but have a ton leftover!

Op - where did you get it?

All Day Chemist.

Any effect on forehead wrinkles?

Nope. I get Botox for that -

Of course it does - it elevates the risk of skin cancer and there is also some evidence that there may be a link to lung cancer as well.

I’ll take my wrinkles and age spots and embrace aging as the beautiful blessing it is.

Well then why did you ask

I started with .025 tretinoin, then after 6 months when I wanted to increase the concentration, I just switched over to All Day Chemist. ADC is so much cheaper and it has worked well for me since.

Thanks for this. I use Apostrophe now. Maybe I will switch.

People have noticed the difference in my skin.

Ehh, I'm with Kaiser Permanente and they told me no. They said I had to go to a cosmetic dermatologist, not a regular dermatologist. (I was there for mole checks). They wouldn't prescribe me tretinoin.

I get mine for $6 through alldaychemist.com

I have Kaiser and said it was for mascne and they gave me a prescription.
