What are you talking about?!? Big 3 grads, without artificially inflated GPAs, will attend Cal, UCLA, Michigan, and UVA this fall. So in those instances, private high school has lead to public college. |
Well, that just can’t be true. If it were, then all the private school parents wouldn’t be able to complain about deflated/inflated grades and W/UW GPAs. And they do. All the time. So you must be wrong. |

Lots of NCS girls go every year to Chicago too. I think 8 girls are going this year, which is a lot out of a class of 72. |
Winter is brutal. Chicago seems like an interesting place to me. But coming from DC, I'd choose Boston over Chicago any day - especially as a college student. |
But at our Big 3, the kids going to these schools are all hooked (in the case of UVA I'm adding in-state to hooked) - unhooked kids are not going to these schools. |
UC still gives a bump to AP courses in their own recalculation. If you go to a Big 3 and take English (no AP offered) and get a 5 on the AP Lang or AP Lit exam - you do NOT get a bump in UC calculation. There is a difference even when colleges recalculate. Those schools aren't giving some special bump to Big 3 students for the English class. |
Really? My friend whose DC is a senior at Sidwell this year said only 3 kids go to U Chicago this year. |
At my Big 3, NONE of the admitted students who are attending in the fall are “hooked.” Btw, UC schools are not permitted to consider legacy/donor status in admissions. We also know that race cannot be considered at the UCs, and no DC Metro student lives in-state for California or Michigan schools. Finally, at my Big 3, none of the students attending the aforementioned schools are recruited athletes. It may be hard for some of you to grasp, but Cal, UCLA, Michigan and UVA continue to admit Big 3 students who are completely unhooked. It’s ok…you will deal. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/current-issues/admissions#:~:text=Per%20long%2Destablished%20UC%20Regents,children%20of%20alumni%20or%20donors. |
And yet Big 3 students are still being admitted to top UCs. Go figure. |
|
My kid was admitted to two UC schools. Unhooked. From public.
It’s ok. You’ll deal. |
That’s the number of Sidwell students who are attending U of C. More than 3 students were admitted this year. You do realize that not every admitted student will attend U of C, right? |
I’m dealing very well. My oldest child, a Big 3 alum, currently attends an Ivy (legacy and proud of it). My youngest child currently attends the same Big 3. Neither child applied/will apply to state schools—they’re just not interested. I hope that both public and private school graduates land at the best colleges for them. |
I didn’t say they were attending UC. Just admitted. Probably going to the same Ivy where your kid is. Not legacy. |
Unlikely…but you can hope. |
