I joined band (already played piano, added flute, so more practice time required) and I went en pointe so my dance classes went from 3 days a week to 5. |

I remember doing it as a kid and kind of liking it but not really being into it. These days kids are so scheduled it seems to have fallen off in popularity due to the sheer volume of activity choices out there. Our school has a leadership type club some kids do plus organized volunteering opportunities, things Scouts also do but was the only organized choice for those things back in the 80s and 90s maybe.
I’ve talked to my 3rd grader about it as there are parts of scouting I think are nice, but she’s focused on sports and we just dont have time for another thing. |
| We have a very active GS troop. We meet once or twice per month and it is basically a giant play date. Leaders and parents take turns planning events. The overnights are especially popular. |
| The whole cookie debacle is a hard no for me. Not selling someone else’s overpriced product |
They start getting busier around this age. A couple of my daughter's friends play travel sports and they have practice 3x a week. It's different sports, so the practices are on different days and there's no way we can accommodate everyone's schedule. Those girls tried to stay in the troop but they weren't able to come to anything, so they dropped. The same thing happens in Boy Scouts. |
This is no different than band or sports boosters. They're fundraising. A lot of people end up just donating money - we made $200 in donations at our last booth. |
