GS is such a positive memory from my childhood and going away for a week or two to camp was a big part of me learning independence. I still have a few friends from my Brownie troop that I didn’t go to school/church with - they are purely GS friends. Most of us dropped it a year or two into Juniors, but the Daisy and Brownie years were a lot of fun and something I looked forward to.
Why most drop GS around juniors ( grade 4 & 5)?
They start getting busier around this age. A couple of my daughter's friends play travel sports and they have practice 3x a week. It's different sports, so the practices are on different days and there's no way we can accommodate everyone's schedule. Those girls tried to stay in the troop but they weren't able to come to anything, so they dropped. The same thing happens in Boy Scouts.
