This. Op, do you have a copy of your police report? If not, get it today for sure. |
| A lawyer for $300 in medical bills? OP you are nuts. Let it go. It’ll cost you more in legal bills. Not to mention the strain it’ll put on this “relationship “ with your new neighbors. |
It could become more of a strain if the lying dog owner is allowed to continue to lie. |
Yup. A child ran up to my 12-lb dog while I was walking dog. I had already warned the mother my little dog is shy and didn't want to be petted. The ~8-year old insisted on trying to pet him. My high strung dog flipped, ran in circles around me, tangled the leash around my legs, I fell and I was injured. I'm not going to sue anyone for a one-time injury that will stop hurting in a few days -- but a fall like that involving an elderly person walking their tiny dog can cause major problems. I'm not saying OP or her toddler were to blame in any way, but don't let your children try to pet dogs when the owner has already said that's not a good idea! |
Who wants a relationship with liars who let their dogs bite little kids? |
Another lawyer here and this is my take too. |
We are only getting one side of the story. OP said it happened fast. The child might’ve could’ve been on the property which legally mucks things up. I’d let it go. She wasn’t mauled or even needed stitches. I had a friend whose child was mauled by a pit bull - but the child actually entered the house without permission (she was looking for her friend to see if she wanted to play) and legally her mom could do nothing, which was sad. |
| Absolutely floored lawyers are advising not to hire a lawyer and others are claiming the OP is crazy. The neighbor is clearly posturing to take action by accusing the OP of “hitting first”. A lawyer is to prepare for a counter suit, possibly a cease and desist depending on what the neighbor does next… not strike first. Isn’t that obviously the right move here? |
| Owners need to keep their dogs on leashes. I live in Georgetown and the oblivious dog owners who let their dogs wander the sidewalks and crosswalks without being leashed is mind boggling. I saw one mom pushing a stroller last weekend and she couldn’t keep up with the speed of her dog trotting up the block. Don’t be dumb. |
I'm 08:40. Yes, I agree, get a lawyer. A vicious neighbor making false claims about you to the police can cause you major problems. Better to nip it in the bud than to allow them grace and have them spread stories about you throughout your new neighborhood. |
Literally 2 posts above yours have 2 lawyers saying they’d get a lawyer. |
Another lawyer. I wouldn’t waste my money getting a lawyer. If I’m already $300 out of pocket (and no lawyer if going to take this case because damages are so small), I’m not spending more money just because someone said something about me that isn’t true. I mean really people say things that aren’t true all the time. And it’s not like there are tons of documents to gather that you can’t get later if need be. |
Mauled? Did you pay for the plastic surgery? |
These “lawyers” are simply trolling. |
| I think you’re a troll but I’ll play too. Your kid was on the neighbor’s property. You weren’t paying attention because you were on your phone. Your kid did something to antagonize the dog. Your kid was never in danger but you still kicked the dog. You should be charged with assaulting the dog. But don’t worry, Michael Vick redeemed himself so maybe you can too. |
