Worst boss you ever had.....

Addict with bipolar disorder. Insecure over-sharer who moved goalposts for success without warning. insisted on having tough conversations on our personal cell phones so they could be a jerk without having it monitored by our company.

I didn’t last long there, and after I left, several others followed.

Environment so toxic that yes, I considered the final step. I left and sought professional help. I also stumbled (I now believe God’s action; I am not a particularly religious person, but I firmly believe in Karma) into a job paying me nearly 50% more with much better benefits and a mellow workplace where I was respected.

Decades ago I taught at a university as an adjunct. I was a hardass, I admit, on grading and class attendance. A female student accused me of improper actions as she had earned a grade which she did not like. As I was teaching 5 courses and several hundred students, she was just another roster name, I did not know her, but became much too aware of her. Her mother was very high in the University, as I discovered, and was very protective of her daughter.

As I was under contract to teach 5 courses again the Spring semester, the University could not easily fire me. But they could, and did, make my life a living hell. Lawyers hired by the University would frequently sit in my classes and note everything I said and did. I was required to hold office hours daily when I wasn’t teaching, and people would watch me. People would follow me home and often park outside my home, sometimes all night and weekends. The stress nearly destroyed me, and I seriously contemplated.

Literally the last moment the final exams ended my health care and other benefits were terminated, even though contractually they were to extend through the summer.

We are…soul sucking, life destroying monsters.

CIO of a large federal agency. Narcissist, snake, hypocrit. Forces folks to hire one of her friends as a contractor. Routinely violates federal travel regs and other ethics rules. Talks about and pits staff against one another. Violates Privacy Act by gossiping about others' protected info. The list goes on and on........

One who stays in their office all day with the door closed, has no idea what is going on outside of that office on a day to day basis, plays favorites for assigning coveted work trips.

I say 1/3 of my workers think I am the worst boss ever. 1/3 I am best boss ever.

My problem I give people rope to hang themselves. But if they do well I excess reward. The other 1/3 we just exist.

I also hate staff updates or any form of update. Just do your job. But I realize that can not work some people.

People have followed me firm to firm and love me. But I literally think some would Club me to death and that would give them great joy

Worst boss (female) was at Cap One. She was one of the Rich Fairbanks cultists. She would give me great reviews all year then a crappy end of year rating because of the forced/stacked rankings. She defended everything about the company: had been with them for 26 years. Karma came when she was redeployed and let go. She looked a tad bit she’ll shocked.

The boss who shut me out of meetings and projected my linkedin profile in the middle of a meeting to give as an example of what-not-to-do in a linkedin profile. He called me back 1 day before my maternity leave. Poisoned all my coworkers against me and future places of employment, telling them I was an ambitious no substance worker. Gave orders that anyone who collaborated with me would be considered traitors to the clan (i kid you not!). Luckily, I also have solid references who told future employer they would be crazy not to take me.

For the life of me, I still dont know why he is so out to get me. Almost feels personal. Rumor is he got pissed that he could not control me when he "made" me. Not true at all. He did not make me. If anything, he made everything so much harder and more stressful than it had to be.

My worst boss was like this too. When she was around she micromanaged, bullied, pitted everyone against each other, it was the most toxic environment I had ever worked in. She definitely had some sort of personality disorder. I've met others over the years who have worked for her and nobody has ever had a nice word to say about her. She would call people names in meetings and loved to make people cry. What a piece of work! I also had a boss that sexually harassed me, and I would take him any day of the week over the crazy b****.
