Would you let your 16-17 year old do this?

All this tells me is you don’t understand how trafficking works. It’s not the wealthy white teens with family at home wondering where they are who get trafficked. It’s the girls who don’t have anyone to buy them a plane ticket or help them get a lawyer.
This is definitely NOT true. Airline staff ask questions or note most teen girls flying solo specifically to catch human trafficking.

Oh no, my dear, they don't. They're overwhelmed with passengers and don't notice everything. How the system works in theory is not how the system works in practice. Even if a girl is "noted", what do you think the police can do to find her again, hmm? You are very, very naive.

Yeah, they absolutely do not ask any questions. My teen DDs have been flying alone since they were 15 (not UM) and have NEVER once been questioned. They’re now in their 20s.

I would, at least with my oldest. She’s pretty straight laces.

When I was 16 I flew to Spain by myself with two transfers. It was a program and they were supposed to meet us in New York but they didn’t. And I was from podunk town. And they let us walk around Madrid all by ourselves the next day.

Boston is easy and it sounds like she will just be going to the event. With phones, you can track her constantly and she can Uber if you’re worried she’ll get lost on T. Even if she gets stuck, you can rent her a hotel room remotely and she can do online checkin and digital key and they will never know it is a teen in the hotel room.

But I would also definitely at least text and likely call the other parents. Maybe set a zoom so you can talk logistics and that way you can eyeball them.

Nope.

Uh what??? "with people she met on line" ? Do you know who these people are? This sounds insane.

No. Not with strangers from the internet.

If she was going up with friends from school that I had met before, maybe. Maybe.

This all sounds moderately risky.

Yes. She has zoomed with them (cameras on). It's a really nice group of teens and young adults who have bonded over a very niche interest.

You sound very gullible.

Yes I would, but I let my kids live normal lives and are teaching them to become independent adults before heading off to college.

Most DCUM mommies want Life 360, their kids near them 24/7, and filled with meds for the anxiety they subconsciously caused.

this is so freaking accurate!

Yes I would let my child do this. I would make sure to talk to a few of the friends parents and have their cell phones just in case. Sounds like a fun day to see friends in person.

I do too and allow many things that would make DCUM clutch their pearls, but I still wouldn't let my kid go. With known friends, absolutely, no question. With people they've only met on the internet? Nope.
