Enough already. I'm not the poster you are arguing with but there is no law (at least in my area) that requires cats to be kept inside at all times. To say that I'm not properly caring for my cat b/c I let it go outside in my patio every now and then for a couple of hours is moronic. The problem with your post is that you are completely black and white on this issue. All people who let their cats outside are NOT all bad pet owners. Just like all people who keep their cats inside all day are not all GOOD pet owners. Do you understand this concept? |
Totally agree with you! I dare to say someone who never lets their cat have fresh air, may, dare I say, be a bad pet owner. |
Wow! ! ! Just WOW! ! !
5 pages on cats and bells.... AMAZING

No one is saying that you can't let your cat outside on your own property. The issue is with having the cat roam free for all hours of the day. It is completely and utterly irresponsible to have a cat and let it run free for all hours of the day. |

I just wanted to chime in and say that when I adopted my cat, they made me sign a paper that said I wouldn't let my cat be an "outside cat". Growing up, we lived in the Midwest 'burbs and I had cats, we always kept them outside, never thought any different. They stayed in at night but during the day went out when they felt like it. We did the same with our dogs. We had a big yard and a fence though. They all lived to a ripe old age and were very good cats (and dogs). |

If You Love Wildlife, Keep Your Cat Inside: http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/facts/wildlife_cats.html
Please. I'm not trying to be nasty. Cats are not children and letting them roam is not safe. (If I thought your kids were wandering alone into the street or getting into vicious fights with other kids, I'd suggest you keep them inside, too.) There are a million reasons why it's better for them to stay inside. Here are only a few: 20 Reasons to Keep Your Cat Indoors: http://www.theanimalrescue.com/indoors.html |

My inside/outside cat was hit by a car* when I was 16. She made it home, but her face and jaw were... yeah. It was awful. My aunt and I rushed her to the emergency clinic where the vet basically had to wire her jaw and repair her hard palate. I should also mention all this cost a small fortune. (I think if I hadn't been the one to find her, my parents would have let her go.) She made a full recovery and lived for years after, but I got a stern lecture from the vet on why cats shouldn't be allowed to roam. It was a terrible way to learn that lesson.
*I assumed by her injuries. I didn't see it happen. |

Since when do you care how long my happy cat lives? Stop prosthelytizing. Honestly, you end up with a longer thread devoted to telling me why I need to keep my cat indoors than you would if I told you I let my kids smoke.
I have a cat and he's quite clear that he wants out an hour a day. I let him out. I have a radio collar on him to find him if he doesn't come back within the hour. The reason half of you are saying keep your cats indoors is because you hate cats. I work full time and my cat would be miserable inside all day. If you think not, you try it a few days in a row. You'd have to suspend all reason to think a cat is just as happy indoors. |
| Actually, I shared my story above because I loved my cat and don't wish that on anyone. No, not even you. I'm sorry if that sounds like cat-hating. Let your cat roam if it's that important to you. |

happy or not, your cat is not welcome in my lawn.
you want it alive, keep it away from me. |
See, this is why your side looks crazy-ass mean. I'm sure your neighborhood faces a far greater menace than a roaming cat, given your thought process. They need to put a bell on you, lady. |
| this is stupid. cats DO and CAN live outdoors. it's a fact of life that they kill birds and other creatures. they are ANIMALAS. deal with it. it is not irresponsible to allow a cat to live in nature. they are CATS for god's sake! |

Dear cat owners:
Relax. There are a bunch of hot-heads in this forum who get a kick out of telling you they will kill Fluffy if you let it roam. They won't, unless they're whacked. And really, very few people are. They are just upset. If you can appease an angry neighbor with a bell, for heaven's sake do it. If you can't, don't worry about it. I can't think of a real person (other than some people profiled on AMW) who would actually kill your cat. |
Don't worry, this is last resort. Usually if I beat them up and kick them out a couple times they never come back. |
Amen. |
