Superficial way you judge people as rich ?

having one of those oven/stove combos that have two ovens side by side and 6 gas burners on top.

I know a lot of extremely wealthy people from various parts of my life who are not flashy at all. very low maintenance in general with an occasional pop of something that is just particularly good quality. If it is worth it, they buy it. If not, no need to spend extra money for nothing. Generally, the showy people aren't actually that wealthy, with the exception of those whose money is made by leveraging a vibe (for example, involved with the sales of luxury products), in which case they act the part. Then again, I'm not a showy person, so I definitely attract a non-showy crowd.

They live below their means but most are rich. Even the poors have enough to pay for kids college, big fat 100K weddings, retirement, paid off home, kid's first car etc.

How do they do it?

B/c they have no retirement and expect their kids to pay for their life past 60. They aren't rich.

This is not true at all. Indian-Americans are the wealthiest ethnic group in US.

Yes, income. But why do they need their kids to take care of them? B/c they spent all their money on weddings, school etc. I have not met very many that are retired without their kids help. Not rich to me.

I automatically assume someone is broke AF when I see them with:

Long fake nails
Michael Kors, Coach, Louis Vuitton branded anything
Fake hair
Pump heels
Showing their belly button in public

That’s because of the cultural bubble you grew up in. Many of these things are typical of wealthy people just not in your WASP culture.

Yes, and we’ll always think they look broke as sh*t. Devoid of class.

Perhaps they don't seek your approval, dear? Stay mad.

Tattoos & piercings are very low class. Don't care how much money they have, i do not want them as my neighbors.

Ha! Becoming old is going to be very rough for you. These days young people of any class background get tattoos and you can’t do anything about them moving next to you. They still comin’.

Yes, we can spot trashy new money from a mile away.

I've found the people who fume most about "new money" are themselves "no money."

Agreed with "having nice teeth."

Also, what they do with their leisure time. Poor people don't generally have much leisure time or, if they do, can't afford to take advantage of it. Rich people have time and money to pursue hobbies and interests and/or do things to improve themselves.

Rich people also tend to make good long-term financial decisions ("spending money to save money"). They keep up on house maintenance and buy things in bulk because they can afford to do both and know that doing so will save money in the long term. For the same reasons, they also generally buy quality items that will last for many years, rather than disposable junk.

- a quiet confidence and sense of ease. I can’t explain it. They’re relaxed looking.
- nice demeanor and friendly and approachable.
- thin and healthy looking. Glossy hair, clear healthy skin, straight healthy gums and teeth.
- no obvious signs of striving. Not decked in designer clothes or jewelry.
- surprisingly thrifty. Use the library instead of buying every new best seller. Buy children’s clothes on eBay as opposed to boutique stores.
- home decorated sparsely but tastefully with antiques and nice carpets.
- biggest expenses are home in a nice zip code + private school

It really doesn't matter. It's easy to judge but there are plenty of people who are rich and don't look like it. Just treat all people well.

If their phone does not have a case, they are rich.

Disagree. I would argue that, if your phone needs a case, you made a bad choice in phones. If a device is too flimsy to survive ordinary use, then the appropriate response should be to buy a more durable device, not to put some rubberized appendage on it in order to make up for the device's poor design.

Depends. This can be striving vs. true wealth, especially in Loudoun county.

What's wrong with cases? This is so weird.

This is dumb. Most people I know have iPhones. If you drop an iPhone, it will break. Please list all the superior, rich-people phones that don't break when dropped on concrete.
