Every time our team would pass in from the sidelines, a girl on the opposing team would get about 2 inches from their face, jumping up and down waving arms and screaming BALL BALL BALL BALL. Refs and coaches didn't react. It was unbelievably obnoxious and she did it over and over. I'm no expert, but I've watched both my kids play casually and have attended a number of UMD women's games and have never seen this behavior. Is it legal? Or should it have been called?

Never?

This is the OP - this is EXACTLY what was done every time and it was just one girl doing it so she looked ridiculous and out of place. As I mentioned, I am not an expert but this was the first time I had ever seen this done and I thought it was obnoxious AF.

Your kid should be doing this if she is defending an inbound throw in as well. This is how the game is played

Ignore this troll.

This. A few coaches coach it and your kid will know if their coach is one of them. Others see it as bush league and will not appreciate your kid doing it

Teams need to communicate on defense...ideally calling out if they have the ball, see a screen coming, who is boxing out the shooter on a free throw, etc.

That doesn't need to be repeated screaming but does need to be loud enough to be heard across the court with crowd noise.

Sometimes players are too quiet on defense. I once had my players yell their defensive calls for a game to get them used to being loud enough on defense and not self-conscious about it. I never had that continue throughout the season, but I can understand why a coach might have a team call out loudly who has the ball on each defensive play. And if it is an in bounding play the player on the ball is the one guarding the passer.

This is what I was thinking about too. — former player and coach

For some reason I went to a high school girls basketball game when I was in high school. There was a girl on our team who kept shrieking as a tool to throw off the opposing team. I remember wondering if thwt was ok or fair. I a, not athletic.
