| Tori Amos — chromesthesia, composing by age three, admitted to the Peabody Institute at five, kicked out at eleven for “musical insubordination,” amazing lyrics and arrangements — she’s got a fascinating story! |

| Joshua Bell. He came from a fairly normal Midwestern family and picked up a violin at a very young age and basically started playing it. (I’m exaggerating but only a little.). His parents got him a teacher and eventually the teacher said “we need to find him a much better teacher.” He was playing national concerts by the time he was 16 and had gone to regular school until not long before that (very rare for child musicians). I think he got a little bored with it and has tried to find ways to keep it interesting over the years so every decade or so he seems to be on a different path. His latest thing is duets with his current love, who is an opera singer. I liked his musical phase when he did covers of Gershwin and west side story. |
