USA only country in the world where life does not come to a halt when it's soccer team plays in WC

A game in the most popular sport in the entire world.
Billions will be watching it around the world.

Meanwhile in the USA most people will not be watching. Life goes on. Nobody cares.

Ummmm I’m working. What will you have me do, cancel on my customers because the game is on?

Who cares, OP? I just don't GAF about men's soccer, period. Isn't being able to be "unique" and have different interests part of what makes America "great"?

This. Or women's soccer for that matter. I find it incredibly boring and I love sports.

America does come to a halt on Superbowl Sunday. And have you heard of March Madness?

America population = 330 million

World population = BILLIONS

It's no use, PP. I am French, so of course ***football*** is important in my country. But the average American barely acknowledges the existence of terrain and peoples outside of their national border, except as convenient targets during political campaigns against immigrants. Obviously they will all fail to grasp that hardly anyone outside the US cares at all about their little American version of football, their baseball, their basketball (we do have a French basketball prodigy, but not a lot of people have heard about him). Typical chauvinism.

I have never once wondered what people outside of the US think of our sports.

Right!

Very ‘Mad Men’ Don Draper “I don’t think about you at all” vibes.

Nobody in the states gives a flying F what the rest of the world thinks about the Super Bowl. We love it. That’s all that matters

Well holding in a horrifically corrupt place during the American holiday season isn’t really helping.

Having it in the summer is better. Also, the 1000s of “disappeared” migrant workers is pretty depressing.

It’s terrible to watch - and not what Americans like to watch. Soccer is now dominated by grown men pretending to be hurt. Americans like toughness- hockey fights, football tackles, etc. Nothing masculine about pretending to be hurt. I just can’t watch.

Why do I feel the same people ignoring the fact that it’s in Qatar (and smugly criticizing Americans who don’t watch soccer) are the same people who said they wouldnt support MLB unless they moved the AS game out of Georgia?

I honestly DGAF about soccer. But holding it in Qatar is pretty hard to defend.

We have to work to pay for our healthcare and retirement.

Well there is the crew in my place who get distracted by the cricket world cup. Whatever gets you excited is fine.

Lol

College Basketball and Football season always takes priority. I would rather watch reruns of the 2002 Terps season than a world cup match

I wonder if OP is the type to criticize when everything stops for Super Bowl Sunday?

Are you serious?

The NBA is huge in Asia and the NFL games in Europe are packed.

MLB is also huge in Asia and Latin America..

PGA Tour is global..

The world revolves around US sports..

So, just to be clear, the French people aren't interested in American sports because of course French sports are superior, and when the Americans are interested in American sports it's a sign that Americans are inferior.

Yes, that is typical French chauvinism.

Right! We do not need to love your sports, Ms. French + we do not expect you to love ours. Anyone can kick a soccerball BTW.
