America does come to a halt on Superbowl Sunday. And have you heard of March Madness?

America population = 330 million

World population = BILLIONS

It's no use, PP. I am French, so of course ***football*** is important in my country. But the average American barely acknowledges the existence of terrain and peoples outside of their national border, except as convenient targets during political campaigns against immigrants. Obviously they will all fail to grasp that hardly anyone outside the US cares at all about their little American version of football, their baseball, their basketball (we do have a French basketball prodigy, but not a lot of people have heard about him). Typical chauvinism.

I also think that we are so ethnocentric that we cannot be interested in something that we don't dominate.

Or we're used to other sports and find watching soccer boring. I played though college and I find it boring to watch.

Wrestling careers are quite short.

Soccer careers can last over 20 years.
That does not even include their youth, grammar school and collegiate playing years.

I have my calendar blocked for each of the US games. Also had the England-Iran game on this morning in the background. I love the World Cup but have to admit that the challenges with the host country, and the related shift in the calendar, are casting a pall on the whole thing. There is too much else going on right now with Thanksgiving, family in town, work, college football, etc. to be able to watch more than a few games.

Worth noting that when the Tampa Bay Bucs played in Munich last week it was well-attended by German fans who loved the sport. Tom Brady said afterward that it was one of the best football games he ever played. Yes I don't like all the commercials either, but American football is a lot of fun to watch.

And also Colombia when they don't make it in to the World cup - too painful so they ignore it.

Sorry, no. The world prefers football, not American football. The only reason the US has the sports it has is that it's all a lot more money driven than other countries' sports: large corporations underwrite it all and nothing else can get eyeballs.

Tom Brady would be using a walking cane to walk right now if he played in the nfl during the 1970s and 1980s.

Such a silly response. Football is mostly standing around. Baseball is hours and often 2-1. Golf? Basketball is great, hockey, soccer, even LAX is better than those.

I'm torn here today because God love the Welsh, I love an underdog. But I'm team USA.

I have never once wondered what people outside of the US think of our sports.

I think OP’s post is too harsh. People in the US definitely care about the World Cup and the USMNT. HOWEVER - this WC is controversial because of the host country and the bribery surrounding FIFA, and because it’s taking place in the Middle East they had to move it to November when we have a bunch of other sports to watch - especially football which is obviously king - and the holidays to prepare for. World Cup soccer is usually played over the summer when people have more time to care. Now it has to compete with the NFL, college football, the NBA, and even NHL which has a strong foothold in a lot of places. And Thanksgiving too!

But just wait until England-USA on Friday and I bet a lot of people are going to be watching and talking about that.

I primarily watch basketball. Baseball is worse than soccer. Football is ok, at least a high scoring game

I care to the extent that I like watching a bunch of the Euros in basketball, but as long as young Lukas or Giannnis pick up basketball, that's enough for me

It is an outrage that Qatar has the World Cup!

So, just to be clear, the French people aren't interested in American sports because of course French sports are superior, and when the Americans are interested in American sports it's a sign that Americans are inferior.

Yes, that is typical French chauvinism.
