I agree. It seems like as Maret has shot up in the academic rankings to equal the likes of GDS, Sidwell, etc. it has paid less attention to its athletic facilities. I think they're building a new off-campus outdoor facility though.

This didn’t happen at least not during the past six years.

NP. Maret has same college matriculation as Sidwell and GDS so I generally would agree with PP. Plus they have better athletics in general (aside from Sidwell with better bball). I would say Maret’s star has been rising quite a bit the last few years.

OK, Karen.

New intriguing family. Prove me otherwise. We are being recruiter by both schools. From what I’ve seen they literally have the same college schools. If not better at Maret based on %. I honestly don’t see a difference between Maret and Sidwell. Went to the Maret football semi finals game today. Met quite a few families that are headed to Ivy League.

Because of sports.
If your kid isn’t a sports recruit, you’re in the general admissions with low acceptance rates.

Yeah this is just not accurate at all. It can be easily confirmed also.

There is not one athletic recruit on this page. So all the Ivy ones and T20 shown here are non-athletes. I can say there is one kid at Yale playing basketball but he’s not even shown on this page. One kid shown on this page going to Emory was going to walk on but is not playing bball anymore. Another kid not shown here is playing football at UVA. There is also another kid at Dartmouth here that played tennis but not on college level.

Where are you getting your information or are you just assuming?

The Maret admission team must live and breathe this board! Do they employ someone full time to troll these boards?

It’s well-known that one member reads it all day, every day and will ask the site owners to remove posts or threads that get too real.

Am I right that they seem more active than other schools? Or are their posts/comments just more obvious?

Instagram Maret poster here. I can promise you I am not a Maret staff member in no way. Not sure how to prove a negative. But I’m just a mom that works in finance.

well you also responded to a post that noted that if families at the football game in mid November knew their kids were going Ivy that they had to be athletic recruits. I think the exact line was "Met quite a few families that are headed to Ivy League" No one was talking about last year or years past. So I think you got all hot and bothered for nothing.

That’s not me. I know of one football player (a top student) that is going to Yale in this year’s class. Not a few. There are very few seniors on the football team that I can think of. I think only 3 plan to play football in college and even then I wouldn’t classify them as recruited athletes, more so that they plan to try to walk on.

What do you mean that is isn’t you? It seems like you’re losing track of your personas. BTW, you seem awfully clued in for a mom who has only been at the school for two years and doesn’t really do much.

What's the deal with that gym? It's decrepit. The rest of the place is faded, but that gym is sad. No admissions team marketing can dress that up. Anyone see Potomac's new gym? It's amazing!

Ah, yes. The facilities arms race.

That phrase has been said by more SFS moms than I can care to count.

Funny that they just did a multi-million Reno to the athletic center 3-4 years ago and it still somehow didn’t get updated.

People have an issue with Landon because it has a decades old reputation of fostering a culture of toxic masculinity, bullying, racism, jock-dominance, anti-LBGQA, etc. This is not a recent development. It’s not a situation wherein Landon has be faulted for failing to become adequately “woke.” This has been its reputation for decades and the school has done nothing to alter the culture or even the narrative. It can be tricky at any single-sex boys’ school to avoid a culture of toxic masculinity, but many other boys’ schools in the area at least have excellent academics to off-set some of the other issues, but Landon doesn’t offer excellent academics either. My son plays sports at a big three school (with an excellent athletic program) and he says that while kids disagree about which other schools are good/bad, everyone hates Landon. Or more specifically, no one likes the kids from Landon because they are always jerks. I’m sure there must be some nice kids there, but I bet they are pretty lonely and miserable.

+1 on this. Graduated from an all-boys school just out of the area twenty years ago, and everyone hated Landon then too. My alma mater was also a breeding ground for toxic masculinity/racism/obnoxious Southern frat bro culture, but they've made some major positive strides in the past 5-10 years.

Pay careful attention to Landon’s renovation map. Note that the PAC is grayed out. There will be no improvements to the cafeteria nor the cavernous, ghastly (structurally unsound?) performing arts building. This is a huge oversight and indicative of a cultural blind spot for the institution as a whole.

We are focused on the academics and teaching and grading philosophy, not the playground or facilities.

+1. Fancy gyms and pools do not impress me. Def a nice to have (SFS) but not even top 5 on my list of evaluating schools.

No, they say it because to date sfs has not played the facility arms race game. Is there a new campaign?

Yes, they are playing. Have you seen the new consolidation plans?

So no new plan still doing the 50 year consolidation plan.
