When op posted this I went on the site and bought one. It arrived a few days ago. Not that hard, you just have to have good timing. Op alerted me to the existence of the brand and I liked it so I got one. When I bought it there were maybe half of them still available, though most of the “better” colors (imho) were sold out in the small and medium. I got a medium in bronze which I liked a lot, probably would’ve gotten that or another metallic (all were avail when I bought it) or a neutral like black or tan. Maybe an hour after I bought it they were all gone so I guess it really is a cultish thing.

Forget about what people think and just buy the bag! No you’re not wrong for getting what you want! I think it’s awesome supporting black business. The problem with many people is that they care too much what people think and this is why so many people are miserable! No body should get to decide on what you buy, how you should look, and what you should wear!!! Just buy the bag.

Telfar just came out with all colors and sizes of their bags and I love their bags. I am a non-American white woman and get confused about all the cultural/social norms that I did not grow up with. I was talking about it in the office and one of my colleagues said it would not be viewed favorably for a white woman to have a Telfar bag. I understand the sentiment since the brand is black owned and created, but wouldn't they want more people to buy their product and represent them? I don't know if I am actually in the wrong or not, and if I am I will be happy to not buy this. Any opinion is appreciated and please know i am not trying to start a controversy. It will probably all sell out before I can figure this out lol.

Thank you.

This is America. Buy and wear whatever you want.

Don't buy bc they are plastic and tacky.

My biggest bag regret is not picking up an Ugg X Telfar shearling tote when I had a chance. Just buy what you like. There are more socially useful ways to spend your energy then this.

I am a white woman and not everything is for you OP. It’s ok for there to be some things that you like and covet but cannot have.

It’s like cultural appropriation and Halloween costumes. If you have to ask if it’s wrong, it’s probably wrong. If you ask “if I do X Y Z, then is it ok?” It is wrong. If you have to justify or explain your choice, if you have to modify the costume to make it ok - that is your clue it is wrong.

If you feel you will have to explain your choice or if you will constantly wonder if POC are giving you stink eye when you carry the bag - it’s not worth it. Just find another tote bag.

I’m rolling my eyes so hard at your “wokeness”

im black and I wouldn’t have even known. And that’s the point. If white people are only supporting white-owned businesses and Black people are only supporting black-owned, we will never get anywhere.

An OP you did say that yiu were nonAmerican and was questioning the culture. I hope you have your answer
