National Merit Semifinalist for DMV Private Schools

Minimum score on PSAT for NMSF is the same everywhere. Achieving NMSF approximately means the student scored at 99.5th percentile on their PSAT.

NM Commendation is still very good, but has a lower threshold.

I just googled.
https://www.fcps.edu/news/two-hundred-thirty-seven-fcps-students-are-2023-national-merit-semifinalists
And counted roughly. TJ has about 131, so it’s 131/452, which is 29%.

https://schoolprofiles.fcps.edu/schlprfl/f?p=108:13:::NO:0_CURRENT_SCHOOL_ID,P0_EDSL:300,0

Basis Mclean is 7/30=23%.

Both are great.

I dont know why you are so invested in this. My DC is a senior at GDS and the kids couldn’t care less about the PSAT. The school does not push PSAT.
But if it makes you feel better…

Lol why the snark? Be happy for your kids. Mine (and many on his cohort) skipped the PSAT altogether.

Totally wrong. NMSF varies by state and DC is set at the same level as the highest state cutoff. Commended is a lower number set by National percentage.

Not associated with GDS (a different DC private) but I remember last year or two years ago only one kid got NMSF from GDS. And their college admissions was still fantastic. I agree with the PP that many kids in DC privates don't care as much. Their schools do not make it a big deal.
