Do you still hear from them if your child didn’t get in?

Yes.

It could be that they send acceptances first. Or a child could be an alternate and they're waiting to get acceptances/declines back from those admitted, which are due Wed.

She’s been working hard and getting lots of praise and awards, but has mostly had video auditions in the last few years since she’s been playing at a more advanced level.

She made county honors bands in earlier grades, had one disastrous audition for state honors band which made her realize she how much she didn’t know, and since then it’s been all uploaded videos. She said she got nervous and totally flustered during the sight reading, which she normally does well at with her teacher.

So she’s hoping her PVYO audition video will be more successful. And frankly, I’m not all that sorry about not having to pay those MCYO fees!

Hope she gets into PVYO. The top group, and it goes also by grade level is extremely competitive and probably very few slots since kids have been in MCYO for years but some kids do move/drop out. The sight reading for some reason is a huge deal. Its a hard audition. She may have done better than she thought but it may have been a space issue.

Thanks—she actually did get into PVYO. Seems very pleased. She knew MCYO was a long shot, and almost didn’t audition. Her teacher encouraged it for the experience, if nothing else, but I think PVYO is probably a better fit for her anyway.

We still haven’t heard anything. Last year had to contact the director and she sent us the results directly.

I thought PVYO was very inclusive. Are kids not getting in?

They only have so many seats.

No, they are very selective too. MCYO is supposed to be a bit "better" but its like anything else and what is the best fit for your child. MCYO has more staff and fancier facilities. They only have limited slots for kids and generally the orchestras are about 100 kids in all the instruments.

Did anyone get into the wind ensemble for PVYO? Any experience?

The Chamber Program of MCYO, does it worth another trip during the week? What's different from the regular program and who will be invited - all, top 50%, top 10% of each instrument?

Chamber are I think smaller groups. Its audition only as well and I think its the top kids, just like in regular but not sure. Its up to you if its worth it.
