DCPS Calendar - why can't they just leave things the way they were?

OK I'm trying to understand, or is it June 23rd? I cannot tell. I looked at both.

Ok June 22nd with snow make up days June 26-27 that nobody would actually show up for anyways if they actually extended the year.

I wish they would make a calendar specifically for students that just tells you when school is closed. I find it annoying that they include all the "DCPS open but no school" days. I understand it's relevant to staff but they should get their own calendar! Literally I only care about when there is school or not. Nothing else! I do not need you to remind me that it's a religious holiday.

Thanks, doll but do you have the one for SY 2022-2023?

Ooh wait I hadn't seen the 2023 calendar. They got rid of the February break? And end a week earlier instead? Interesting!!

This is so amazingly bad. I am stunned. If you want to put up an overdesigned and useless calendar, fine. Just leave the old one up as well.

How do you not have the first day of school on the calendar?

There is still a Feb break. The 20th - 24th.

Sorry the quote functionality erased the original post. I was talking about the 2023-2024 calendar someone posted. I'm not seeing a February break?

I had the same dilemma! Still do not understand what the last day of school will be.

Correct. This is the last year with February break. They got rid of it so they can end the school year earlier in June.

Is this just a new format but the dates off are the same as previously posted?

This is just formatting. A couple of years ago DCPS changed the calendar so that they could cheat teachers out of a whole week's pay. They told us we were just hourly workers.

+1000, I have always wondered this.

The only benefit I can see to combining them is that it helps parents to understand that just because school is closed does not mean teachers are not working (since many of the non-holiday off days are PD days or set aside for end-of-term paperwork). There are always entitled parents who will complain but the schedule and blame it on teachers needing time off without understanding that it's not a day off for them, so MAYBE the combined schedule helps mitigate this. Maybe.

But at least I had finally learned to read the old calendar correctly so that I understood when the school was open and closed as well as key dates like first/last days of school, end of term (which I like to know because it helps me stay on top of how my kids are progressing through the curriculum and also serves as a handy reminder to send in weather-appropriate changes of clothes). The new calendar is useless.

Looks like they've finally posted an electronic calendar: https://dcps.dc.gov/node/1497781
