I wish they would make a calendar specifically for students that just tells you when school is closed. I find it annoying that they include all the "DCPS open but no school" days. I understand it's relevant to staff but they should get their own calendar! Literally I only care about when there is school or not. Nothing else! I do not need you to remind me that it's a religious holiday.
+1000, I have always wondered this. The only benefit I can see to combining them is that it helps parents to understand that just because school is closed does not mean teachers are not working (since many of the non-holiday off days are PD days or set aside for end-of-term paperwork). There are always entitled parents who will complain but the schedule and blame it on teachers needing time off without understanding that it's not a day off for them, so MAYBE the combined schedule helps mitigate this. Maybe. But at least I had finally learned to read the old calendar correctly so that I understood when the school was open and closed as well as key dates like first/last days of school, end of term (which I like to know because it helps me stay on top of how my kids are progressing through the curriculum and also serves as a handy reminder to send in weather-appropriate changes of clothes). The new calendar is useless.
