Interesting to hear that Fairfax actually gave their own reduction while the state reduction was not as good as previous years.

The value of houses and cars have skyrocketed. Tax rates tend to get reduced a bit in times like these, yet the cost for county services are not going down, either. The county has to find the balance between tax rate reduction yet still bringing in enough revenue to, I don’t know, pay and retain teachers (more than 50% of county taxes fund the schools)?

Yes, I hate paying car taxes and I hate our mortgage payment going up. It sucks. But, I also don’t want the county to cut services.

And this isn’t Jersey, thankfully

Jersey towns and schools are however generally much nicer and better respectively than here. So there is a tradeoff. I certainly do prefer the Virginia setup at this point in my life.

There are pros and cons to the township model vs the county model

I was just talking about the tax rates in VA vs NJ

That then won’t pass the state-mandated inspections.

I am still paying over $100 for my 20 year old car. Anywhere else it would be practically zero. FFX is squeezing the hell out its residents and it needs to stop. The Springfield district Rep was the only one to vote No on raising taxes. Here's an idea, how about you raise the taxes of all the original home owners so they are more inline with what the new owners pay.

Are you aware that the used car market has skewed very high? Your used car is worth much more now than it was a couple years ago, and the car tax reflects that. Blame the pandemic, supply shortages, etc. Not Fairfax.

In the past, each county could choose how to apply the car tax relief. Arlington had a threshold assesses value below which they didn't collect any tax and Fairfax applied the relief proportionately for everyone. That PP may be correct that some of this might depend on how Fairfax County chooses to apply the relief if that's still how it works.

Good luck with that—it’s vote blue no matter who!

It is hard to imagine something they could do at this stage that would cause me to vote R in a purple state.

It all boils down to this very simple thing: If the GOP is willing to abuse half the population because of their sex, just to appease the pseudo-Christian fascists, then I will not support any state that has untrustworthy GOP leaders. I will not work or live there, won't spend money there and will not send my kids to college there. Currently I'm in MD, where Hogan is term-limited, and despite being anti-abortion himself, knows too well which side his bread is buttered and won't fight the Democratic majority on this. Youngkin is a different beast altogether.

This is great news for us in VA actually... if it keeps people like this in blue states. We can salvage a few more years of sanity.
